Women in Pakistan aren’t as docile as people imagine – Samya Arif

Our woman of substance, Samya Arif designs and illustrates with a keen sensitivity – Women are the main focus of her artwork, and she chooses to tell her story through bold, vibrant colors and images. Samya is an internationally featured illustrator and graphic designer who works in a variety of media. While creating artwork for various music acts, she has also been a part of the electronic music collective, Forever South, as artist, designer and DJ. But this young graphic designer realizes that one can never really ‘rest on their laurels’ in this industry.

“You have to keep reinventing yourself to stay relevant.” Explains Samya, very wisely. She seems to have caught on with the reinvention bit because she is managing to commission a whole lot of artwork from impressive and acclaimed sources.

Samya’s list of accomplished, and fascinating projects is endless. She has worked on various international projects such as the Mumbai based Taxi Fabric, her designs were featured in the British band Coldplay’s video. Her other projects include clients such as Penguin Books, Harper Collins, Red Bull, the US Embassy in Nepal, British Council Belgium, WOW festival, The Lily and she is also a regular illustrator at Pakistan’s renowned Herald magazine. Her work has been exhibited in Pakistan, England, US and India.

Samya is making a mark in the very competitive global Arts and Digital Arena, and we are so proud of her! Whenever Samya’s name comes up on an international project, we take heart in our choti choti khushiyan. We hope she will inspire many other young women to be creative and take the path untrodden to make us proud!
