The Met Gala 2019 took place yesterday and amongst the guests present “by invite only” there were a few that were absolutely “CAMP”! Yes the theme was CAMP – Notes on fashion! Not the kind of camp that you put up to sleep in under the stars with a bonfire etc but one which literally means “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration … style at the expense of content … the triumph of the epicene style”
Now some mastered their style while the others were left somewhere in between the “Oscars red carpet look gone wrong” to “an imaginative fancy dress party” to “not sure what they mean, but I gotta go!”
We chose the ones that were a jaw dropping, accurate representation of CAMP and here they are.
She arrived almost floating in a Fuchsia pink Brandon Maxwell cape gown with a trail so long (25 feet to be precise), that it had to be carried by a bunch of men in suits. Not for long though! She stepped out of the gown to reveal a vampy corseted black dress which was later discarded to reveal her basics, but only till she donned a pink column gown which she accessorised with a pair of sunglasses and a dazzling necklace.
And THAT my friends – was Lady Gaga’s costumes/s!
So Billy Porter outshines them all once again with his quirky dress sense. Which without a doubt was perfect for the theme! He was carried on to the red carpet on a litter by six men dressed in gold trousers which Obviously had to match his Gold bejewelled Bodysuit with 10 feet long wings and a matching head piece in 24-Karat gold! It was mind blowing!
Katy Perry lit up the red carpet! And we mean literally, when she turned up dressed as a chandelier.
The creation was designed by Moschino and was made up of a dazzling embellished dress, which was encased in a decorative hanging light that featured numerous candles and draped crystal beading. She illuminated the pink carpet as others around her wondered why they hadn’t come up with such a “bright idea.”
Because two heads are better than one! Jared Leto carried an exact replica of his decapitated head as a clutch!
Jared also wore a long sleeve silk red gown by Gucci with diamond encrusted detail along the bodice but the ultimate accessory that made “heads” turn and turn again was definitely the head!
Cardi B arrived at the Met Gala in a divinely themed gem-encrusted Moschino gown fit for a queen, showing off her baby bump in the process. Amongst the enormous trails and larger-than life-designs, Cardi carried herself like a diva in a gown that took 35 people and more than 2,000 hours to create, and it’s finished off with a bugle-bead headpiece. She was covered from head to toe and it was perfection!
And that’s all from us folks! The Met Gala 2019 succeeded in surprising, stunning, (and scaring?) audiences into style statements that were more than just “Style”! We’re already wondering what next year’s Met Gala theme has in store for us – aren’t you?
