Harshdeep Kaur will be performing live in Singapore on May 25th. 2019. We sat down to find out what lies behind that mesmerizing voice, the fantastic turbans, and the much lovable persona that is Harshdeep! We asked her a few questions, and this is what she had to say:

If Sunidhi and Harshdeep were in a room together which song would they sing together?

Mujhe mast mahaul mein jeene de

Deepveer wedding.  Please give us an amusing or memorable incident from the wedding.

Ranveer and Deepika requested me to sing Ik Onkar three times during their Sikh wedding ceremony. They both were extremely emotional during the ceremony and it made everyone cry, including me.

Who designs your events wardrobes e.g. you were wearing a Turkish blue ring in an Insta post from Turkey.

Me and my husband select my costumes together. And some really talented stylists work with me to make the perfect looks possible!

An encounter with a Pakistani fan?

I recently met a fan at Istanbul airport. And he said, every time he listens to my song “Babul meriyaan guddiaan” he cries a lot.

Jagjit Singh. You grew up listening to him. Your favorite ghazal?

Jhuki jhuki si nazar

Did you grow up listening to any singers from across the border and do you have a favourite.

I have grown up listening to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saab, Reshma ji, Abida Parveen & Farida Khanum.

Give us a song for each incident please:

Raees gets a sequel and you have to write the lyrics for Zaalima 2 and sing it too. The first sentence will be:

Jo tujhe dekh ke mann mein
Bajta gaana
Vo hai tujhe sunana
Oh zaalima oh zaalima

Harshdeep sings in Singapore and thanks the audience at the end of her show. However the crowd is begging for a last number.  And she sings:

Chalte chalte mere ye geet yaad rakhna … kabhi alvida na kehna …

If Ranveer and SRK did a film together the title song would be?

King & Singh

The song from Pakistan that you always love to hear.

Jugni ji

The song that’s on your mind these days?

Teri mitti from Kesari

The ring tone you love to have on your phone?

Ik Onkar

The actor in the industry who can’t sing to save his/her life.

Today anyone can sing … thanks to auto tune. Hehe

Is it lonely at the top?

If you climb the ladders of success along with your valuing your roots, your friends and family, it’s not lonely at all.

What is the ONE thing you wish you could change about the industry?

Singers, lyricists, composers, technicians, musicians, recording engineers, etc. should be given more respect. These are people behind great music that we listen to everyday.

The person you will always credit for your success?

My family.

If Meghan and Harry were to have a Bollywood romance the song for them would be.

Ban ja tu meri rani

The song (by another singer) you feel you would have sung better?

I would really have loved to sing Dil diyaan gallaan.

If you had to sing for your food. You would sing:

Tere bin nai lagda dil mera dholna

A fan moment that  you will always remember:

On my last visit to Singapore, young school girls dressed up like me performed a medley of my songs for me. That was really sweet.

Harshdeep style choices:

High heels or khussas/kolapuris?

I prefer sneakers 🙂

Western or eastern?

Western

Black or white or red?

White

Mascara or eyeliner?

Mascara

False eyelashes?

Why not?

The one song you refused to sing?

I refuse songs with bad lyrics.

The actor /actress you would love to playback for:

Kareena Kapoor.

Do playback singers get the recognition they deserve?

Yes they do. Thanks to social media & Internet, now the audience knows who is the voice behind their favourite song.

Do you do riaz every day? And what do you sing most?

Yes. I do my vocal exercises learnt over the years.

Did you ever have to cancel a concert last minute and why?

I have never cancelled a concert.

If we were to ask a non Hindi /urdu speaker to listen to our songs – which song should it be to begin with?

Any O.P. Nayyar song

The one time you felt the crowd was very rowdy and what you did about it.

One needs to have a good command on stage and should smartly handle the crowd. For other things there are bouncers. Hehe.

For an aspiring young girl or boy who wants to sing.  Advice on where to start.

Taking proper training in classical music is very important.

Do you have to know people in the industry to work your way to the top?

One must give respect to every person you meet in your journey. Having good relations with everyone is very important. Correct Attitude comes before talent.

And the turban Color you have never worn but would love to wear …

Golden
