Eman Suleman recently made a massive statement. In a photograph that recently went up on her Twitter and Instagram account, the 27-year-old model was shown with a buzz cut. The caption said, “It’s Britney bi(t)ch”.

While many might perceive this to be Eman’s way of honoring the timeless queen of pop, Britney Spears, we can also view it as her not so subtly challenging the stereotypical ideals of beauty in Pakistan.

Eman Suleman Takes The Internet By Storm

Eman is known for her witty Instagram captions and her impeccable fashion choices. She’s your everyday relatable inspiration who loves pioneering for social causes such as the Aurat March and the Haqooq-e-Khalq Movement.

After she posted her new hairstyle online, everyone went wild with appreciation. The comment section under her hairstyle post has to be the most wholesome thing on the internet this week.

Apart from numerous comments admiring her candor and bravery, because yes, you have to be brave to shave your head in Pakistan and post it for the world to see, a few people such as @zebunnisachughtai commented, “you have the most artistically sculpted ear!!!”. Meanwhile, many similar to @manahilarshad1, who commented, “yeh krwa lon?” – are asking their friends if they should get a buzz cut just like Eman’s. She might’ve just started a cultural revolution!

Hair & Its Significance In South Asian Society

Let’s be honest, hair and its sheen and voluminousness play a major part in the husn of women in our society. There are loads of songs dedicated to the glorious hair of both women and men in South Asia. Thus, anything associated with hair loss, greying or thinning is shunned and conveniently swept under the rug.

It’s hard to be stereotypically beautiful in these times and people like Eman Suleman are making the masses question why they’re putting themselves in a box and adhering to an unsaid set of rules. Maybe it’s about time we started embracing ourselves and started smashing these unattainable beauty standards. Let your grey roots show and proudly reclaim your bald head! You’ve got empires to build and demons to conquer!

Areesha Khan harbours a burning passion for writing. This is what she has to say for herself:
I’m your average Pakistani Millennial who loves binge watching trash-TV. When I can, I try to widen my horizons and watch profound works of cinematography as well. In the wild, I can be found sniffing my weathered paperbacks. I regularly obsess over true crime (much to the chagrin of my friends) and love discussing it unprompted. I’m currently working on my undergrad and would love to have a profession in print media.
