Coke Studio Season 12 is just a week away and we can’t wait! The trailer has been released, giving us a sneak peek into what is to come this season and it looks very promising.

“Jab tak rooh hai, tab tak moseeqi hai”

The trailer shows us the lineup of artists featuring in this season, and some quotes from them about what music means to them. The video opens with the line “Jab tak rooh hai, tab tak moseeqi hai” meaning “music & the soul is always connected” which is simply beautiful.

We were expecting to hear some performances, snippets of some songs at the very least, so some people must have been a little disappointed, however, this is very characteristic of Rohail Hyatt, as he breaks the norms and does things differently.

Instead of giving us a song, the trailer focuses on the significance of music for the soul and this hints that we will most likely experience the return of Sufi music and soulful melodies.

Which Artists Will We Get To See In Coke Studio Season 12?

The interpretation of music varied from artist to artist, and this is another hint that we can look forward to many layers, fusions, and surprises this season. We are very excited to see some Coke Studio veterans return to the show, like Abrar-ul-Haq, Hadiqa Kiani, Sanam Marvi and Fariha Pervaiz, along with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam. When these legends come together with Rohail, the result is sheer magnificence – we expect standout performances and nothing less!

This Season Will Feature New Talent

Rohail Hyatt is known for introducing new artists to the world, people who have not been visible in the mainstream and this season he continues the tradition.

We are excited to see Harsakhiyan, Kashif Din, Banur’s Band, Nimra Rafiq, and others, and wonder what new flavor they will be bringing to this season. I am personally looking forward to hearing the magic of Ali Sethi and Aima Baig since we haven’t heard them sing under Rohail’s tutelage.

The trailer is peppered with beautiful words from artists paying homage to music & its importance. Some which stood out the most are:

Awaz itna strong impact create kar sakti hai, aap iska andaza music se laga saktay hain. Qudrat ki ataa hai moseeqi, ke is mein har tarha ka ehsaas paya jata hai. It is spirituality, geography, history, identity, Universe mein to silence ke andar bhi moseeqi hai. Music is alive… Music zinda hai! Agar suro’on ke zariye kisi ke dil pe asar kar jaye na, to jo sab dooriyaan hoti hain wo kuch arsay ke liye khatam ho jati hain.

(Sound can create a very strong impact and you can realize this with music. Music is a gift of nature, which has every kind of emotion in it. There is music even in the silence of the universe. If melodies can have an impact on the heart, then all distances are reduced for a while.)

What Was Missing From The Trailer?

Rohail Hyatt, the maestro behind Coke Studio Season 12

The one aspect missing from the trailer was that we didn’t get to see or hear from the maestro behind it all, Rohail Hyatt; we hope we will get to see him talking about music while we prepare to get enthralled by his compositions and productions.

We are all geared up to experience the phenomenon of brilliant music and eagerly looking forward to 11th Oct for the first episode.

Who are you looking forward to the most? Share your thoughts with us and let’s get talking about music as we wait for next week.
