Tom Cruise is back onscreen with Top Gun: Maverick is releasing in June 2020, 34 years after the first part and we’re losing it! Tom Cruise is obviously still as sexy as ever, taking our breath away, just as he did for our moms back in 1986!
The question is: Will he be able to make us swoon all the way to 1986 when Pete Mitchell was THE man on the screen, speeding into the sunset on two wheels?
So we decided to ask some Millenials what they thought of the Maverick Trailer

Speaking of which, WHERE WAS THE ICONIC SONG “Take My breath Away” IN THE TRAILER?! Is it still going to be the love soundtrack? We hope so, it just wouldn’t be the same without it!

What We Loved About Maverick!
Maverick seems to have kept to the original script, not trying to change and dance to the Millenials tune, but rather, inviting them to take a step back and appreciate the old world charm that was Top Gun.
The frames in the trailer captured iconic silhouette shots – when a picture speaks a thousand words. It really brought back original Top Gun feels and gave us some goose bumps for sure!

Romance is still alive, as well as the need for speed, in Pete Mitchell’s life as he drives his Kawasaki into the sunset with his girl by his side.

If that wasn’t all, Tom Cruise appears unscathed over the past 33 years and we wonder which elixir he has his hands on – seriously!

We can’t wait for the onscreen action to begin as Pete Mitchell was introduced to his students in no uncertain terms:
“Your instructor was one of the finest pilots this program has ever produced…His exploits are legendary … what he has to teach you may very well mean the difference between life and death.”
For Top Gun lovers who are pining for the fighter jets, and onscreen adrenalin-pumping action in the sky, there seems to be lots on the menu, and a whole lot of witty dialogue too!
Tom Cruise amuses with his signature wit:
“Good morning aviators, this is your captain speaking. Today’s exercise is dog fighting!“
So what did the Millenials have to say?
Will they be crushing over Maverick?
The retort came a tad too soon:
If you you ask our opinion, the trailer is interesting, but is it enough?
The stunts and the wise-cracking grabbed our attention especially the dialogue between Maverick and his teacher when he starts teaching his students.

“They’re called orders, Maverick!”
So far so good, the trailer seems to be appealing to Millennials and Gen Z, but does it capture the essence and glory of Top Gun that our moms experienced?

We’re not so sure! Perhaps the romance wasn’t quite enough, perhaps the action needed a boost, or perhaps we just haven’t got into the ‘feel’ of this whole Top Gun thing? We’re still wondering what all the fuss was about in 1986. So, if we had to rate the trailer, we’d give it a 7/10.
On the upside, Maverick releases in June 2020 and we still have half a year to warm up to the evergreen Tom Cruise – Will he do it for us? we hope the movie eventually DOES take our breath away. But for now, we have to settle for the trailers! What about you?
