The stars were out to sparkle, and we caught them in the light of the night. Some didn’t make it – Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan – on top of our list. Others were busy watching Mere Paas Tum Ho in cinemas – or ARY at home. Those who couldn’t do either were the expat audiences who rely on YouTube for Pakistani drama watch! They sat catching the late night instagram feed for some HSA fun. Others watched Alif, and then there were those who didn’t do either – hmmm, I hope you’re reading this article because if those ‘others’ were you, we’ll help you catch up on the weekend that was!
Let’s start with MPTH. For those who haven’t watched it yet, it’s no secret that- SPOILER ALERT – our hero Danish met his end. Teacher Hania was left to cry it out & Roomi will probably grow up into a modern day Khalilur Rehman, so look forward to another drama to explain the infidelity of women in the next decade!
Some fans appreciated the (very) predictable end of MPTH. Others wondered why the writer loves to kill off his characters, and then some just wondered WHY! Why they watched the serial when they could have been better off spending a night out at the movies or, followed Aina & Amaan’s story in YDM. Well viewers, you still have a chance – binge-watch if you will till next week’s episode. But I’m warning you, that story could very well have a bloody end too!
Next comes Alif. The drama that makes us wonder why we suffered through another episode of MPTH when there’s THIS to love. Phrases like: Jo momin hai wohi tau bhatakta hai reach out from the screen to touch you deep down inside your heart. You watch, holding back tears, hanging on every phrase uttered by Momina and wondering at the transition from bhatka hua to momin for our hero – Qalb e Momin. This drama will keep you going for the week till the next episode because – it stays with you. The dialogues resonate, the scenes speak volumes, and the direction is so above par that we are willing to forgive all the flop dramas of yesteryears, only to watch this one over and over again. If anything, we hope it goes on for a few more seasons so we can forgive ourselves for watching – the other one? No, I’m not going to take any more names! You decide which one!
After the spiritual awakening from Alif, we transition to the very larger than life, very glitzy, glamourous and happening Hum Style Awards.
It was a star-studded affair indeed, with or without the power Khans in the house – we got to watch Adnan Siddiqi a.k.a Shehwar host on stage with the very lovely Aamina Sheikh, the two love birds we love to love – Ahad & Sajal walk in together, and so many more celebs who turned up to make it a warm, cosy night under the cool Karachi night sky!
Let the pictures do the talking for the rest. We particularly loved Reema ji’s look in black – always graceful. Abar ul Haq obliged us with a pic on his way to Billo de ghar, and Meeraji looked stunning as usual!
Well that’s a wrap for you! The weekend is up but not before we close the curtains on Danish, Mehwish and Shehwar, open our hearts to Momina & Qalb e Momin, and hope the next Hum Style Awards are even more stylish with the 2 Khans in attendance, and perhaps, on stage too!
Adios from us till then!
