Pehli Si Muhabbat, Pehla Sa Review: Is Romance In the Air Already?

The first episode of Pehli Si Muhabbat aired and we’re already wondering if this one’s a light romance or an intense tragedy – a bit of both perhaps?

Finally! We have the first episode of Pehli Si Muhabbat, the year’s highly anticipated drama and fans couldn’t be more excited. A script by Faiza Iftikhar is enough to vouch a recommendation, but this one also boasts a stellar cast and top notch direction – expectations are soaring and we’re hoping we get what we waited for!

A well-directed opening from Anjum Shehzad grabbed our interest right away as we saw 2 household’s parallel bawarchi khaana stories. And of course, when Maya Ali & Sheheryar come together, love is in the air; and it was no different this time round.

First take

Shehryar Munawar as Aslam in college might be stretching it a bit too far, but it’s okay, Pakistani dramon mein sab chalta hai! We were gently amused by Aslam’s reluctance to leave the bara sheher and return to family – every young man’s dream is thwarted when that happens, right?

HSY gave us a promising debut performance. He certainly played the disciplinarian elder brother part with conviction. In fact, his presence lighted up the screen!

Onwards to Maya Ali who shone bright as a star throughout. Especially her crestfallen expressions when her father unexpectedly announced his new marriage & dulhan at the doorstep.

A different perspective

Kudos to the team for showing the new bride in a realistic light. Her appearance & script was believable & not OTT. Also, her marriage & its repercussions are a meaningful topic of discussion in our society…what does our religion forbid, and what does it allow, or condone?

Successive dramas are encouraging conversations on debatable topics, and that is reason enough to recommend the story. However, it remains to be seen how the issues raised will be handled astutely to challenge mindsets & recondition social (mohallay walay) response to thus far taboo, no-go situations.

Old school romance?

On a lighter note, will Rakhshi & Aslam also indulge in the chhat ka neighborhood romance? We’re waiting for some hulka phulka love before the going gets tough, (which it will), after all, we’ve waited this long after Parey Hut Love, it’s about time, right?

An intense first episode has set the scene very swiftly. We’re waiting to find out, if Pehli Si Muhabbat will give us intense tragedy or intense romance – Can you take a guess?
