On Thursday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg renamed his company Facebook to Meta, as part of a rebranding process. The logo has also been changed in the process, from a large ‘f’ to a blue infinity shape. The ceremony was held at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
This prerogative was taken by Zuckerberg to diversify his company’s areas of expertise. From what we can see, Zuckerberg no longer feels that running Instagram and Facebook are his cup of tea and wants to expand his horizons. Well, can we blame him? Only when it comes at a cost of our privacy!
Some claim that the rebranding process has more to do with Zuckerberg’s initiative to create a metaverse which is a 3D immersive environment shared by multiple users, in which you can interact with others via avatars (Technology Review). It will allow the users to work, play and communicate with each other using virtual reality headsets. Critics claim that this initiative was taken to reconstruct the image of Zuckerberg’s parent company Facebook since it has been under public scrutiny after security leaks.
Needless to say, people had a lot to say. Within a few hours of the launch, it was trending and the memes had us in fits. Here are a few funny tweets we thought we’d share with you all!

Well, how widely the name be accepted still remains to be seen However, we do know that this rebranding has certainly not detracted people from the main issue. As for me, I am thrilled to hear about metaverse and wait to see the new advances in technology but, side by side hope that the grave issue of privacy concerns are not meanwhile brushed off.
