India’s “Didi” Passes Away, Leaving Thousands Mourning
Indian singing legend, Lata Mangeshkar passes away on the 6th of February 2022 at the age of 92 after being admitted to a hospital in Mumbai in January after testing positive for Covid-19. She has been cremated in Mumbai with full state honours. Two days of national mourning followed the funeral and the national flag was flown at half-mast throughout the country. Born in Indore on 28 September 1929, Mangeshkar’s extraordinary career spanned more than half a century and she recorded thousands of songs in 36 languages. She was the recipient of India’s highest honour for civilians, the Bharat Ratna, in 2001 and over the decades she had many accolades to her name. (Source: BBC)
PSL 7 News – Multan Sultans In The Lead, Followed By Lahore Qalandars
PSL 7 is in its final leg and Multan Sultans are still in the lead with 12 points! The schedule for the weekend matches consists of Islamabad United vs Quetta Gladiators on Saturday, while Karachi Kings will battle it out against Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators will face off Lahore Qalandars on Sunday. Karachi Kings is now officially out of the runnings.
PM Imran Khan Will Allegedly Watch PSL Final In-Person
According to news sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan will watch the PSL Final at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on February 27th. PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja had formally extended an invitation to the premiere for the final match of the tournament. The PCB has planned to invite important government figures and eminent personalities from different walks of life to attend the final game. The PM, who is also the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), will also be joined by officials from Cricket Australia will also be present in the stadium during the PSL final match. Dr Atta-ur-Rahman Receives China’s Highest Scientific Award
Renowned Pakistani scientist, Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, received China’s highest scientific award by the Chinese president on the 10th of January at The Great Peoples Hall in Beijing. According to the news source, the “China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award” for the year 2020 was conferred on Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rahman in recognition of his monumental contributions in the field of chemistry. Previously, this international award has been given to several world’s leading scientists, including the Nobel Laureates Dr Carlo Rubbia (Nobel Prize in physics, 1984) and Dr Zhores I. Sindh Students Union Bill 2019 Restores Student Unions In Educational Institutions After 38 Years
The Sindh Students Union Bill 2019 was unanimously passed by the Sindh assembly on the 13th of February. The bill, tabled by the standing committee’s chairman Pir Mujeeb-ul-Haq, was swiftly passed as all parties supported it. The ban on students’ unions was imposed in 1984 during the regime of military dictator Gen Ziaul Haq, briefly lifted during the Benazir Bhutto-led Pakistan Peoples Party’s first government in 1989, but in 1993 the Supreme Court put a blanket ban on political activities by students on campuses. Sindh will be the first province to revive the students’ union after the enactment of the law. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah termed the passage of the bill “historic” and hoped that students’ unions would not participate in hate and provocative activities. (Source: Dawn)
“Lala Darbar” To Open In Dubai
On the 8th of February, cricketer Shahid Afridi shared a video of himself in chef’s garb, showing off some of his culinary skills. The caption read “One step closer to the big announcement…Revealing Soon…Get ready to give your taste buds a mouth-watering triple tarka!”. The restaurant located in Dubai is called “Lala Darbar” and promises authentic desi food. So far exact details such as the location or menu haven’t been revealed yet.
Shoaib Malik & Sania Mirza Hint At Future Biopic
In a recent interview, the retired tennis star Sania Mirza shared details about her upcoming biopic saying, “We are in touch with a few people. Due to Covid, all processes are a little slow but it is definitely in the process…”. The athletic duo is making waves in the entertainment industry. The power couple recently unveiled their celebrity talk show ‘The Mirza-Malik’ on Urduflix and we’re excited to see what the future holds for them!
