We love Pakistan and we love being Pakistani and we’re celebrating with our favourite national songs! Today, Team FUCHSIA brings you its ‘National Nostalgia’ playlist-10 tracks that will awaken the patriot in you!

national songs, national nostalgia playlist

Why Are These Songs Sentimental To Team FUCHSIA?

nusrat fateh ali khan, shehnaz begum

The first song on the playlist is ‘Pakistan Pakistan Mera Iman Pakistan’, sung by none other than the classical maestro himself, Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. No playlist is complete without Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan lending his vocals to boost morale and nationalistic fervour! This song holds a sentimental place in our hearts because it highlights the unity of all Pakistanis regardless of their ethnicity. Moreover, the chorus sung by school-going children was definitely cute! The two songs that we have next on the playlist are ‘Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan’ and ‘Sohni Dharti Allah Rakhey’ sung by Shehnaz Begum (Shehnaz Rahmatullah). She delivered both songs flawlessly with vocals and lyrics that touch hearts. There is a vintage feel to her voice that somehow makes her songs immortal and ‘stream-worthy’, and even her black and white music videos have us in awe of the glamour and grace of the 60s. So much so, that even 50 years after she first sang them, this Bangladeshi singer still holds a special place in the hearts of many Pakistanis. She was also honoured by the Pakistani Government in 1965 and presented with the President’s Pride of Performance Medal.

haroon, vital signs, junoon

However, when it comes to national songs aka ‘milli naghme‘, the 90s and early 2000s proved that Pakistani musicians were a category of their own. With hits such as ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ by Vital Signs, ‘Jazba-e-Junoon’ by Junoon and ‘Dil Se Maine Dekha Pakistan’ by Haroon – we grew up with a sense of solidarity and love for our country and what it meant to gain independence, the sacrifices it took and understanding the magnitude of the lives that were lost.

junaid jamshed, faakhir, awaz

The last four tracks on our playlist are ‘Tera Karam Maula’ by Junaid Jamshed, ‘Jeetain Gay’ by Vital Signs, ‘Ay Jawan’ by Awaz and ‘Dil Na Lagay’ by Faakhir – because no playlist is complete without songs that highlight Pakistan’s love for cricket! From prepping our streets and houses with flags and buntings to watching the match with suspense and excitement with our friends and family and just knowing that you are loved by your countrymen and that you’re all in this together, that’s what patriotism is all about!
