Muzna Hatmi is a Pakistani photographer, business owner and self-professed big-time coffee addict! She recently caught FUCHSIA’s eye on Instagram where we were awestruck by her photography and decided to learn more about her process and what inspires her.
Always having a knack for creativity, Muzna Hatmi had for the longest time thought she would end up becoming a writer. However, she stuck with journaling as she considers it her ‘little art project of sorts and it allows her to get emotionally messy’. But that’s not all… Muzna Hatmi also dabbles in interior design – taking inspiration from her mother whom she dubs a ‘home decor genius!’. However, what Muzna Hatmi is better known for on the internet, is her stunning photography.
On Navigating Success & Finding Her Niche
Muzna Hatmi began experimenting with photography during her gap year after sixth form (A-Levels). She had always been the official photographer in the friend group and so decided it was something she wanted to pursue more seriously. Moreover, since she moved a lot, her travels inspired her to start documenting her journey and all the beauty she saw and experienced around her.
Though Muzna had initially started off with portrait photography, it wasn’t something she could focus on after her move to Pakistan as it was very time-consuming. Gradually, she found her interest shifting to landscape and architectural photography. That’s not to say she doesn’t still enjoy portrait photography. Muzna still takes the odd portrait every now and then but it’s mostly restricted to her family and friends. Her past portraits can be found on Instagram using the hashtag #MuznaHatmiPortraits and just browsing through them makes us wish there were more!
The highlight of Muzna Hatmi’s photography career was when she was featured in Elle Magazine. Though she hasn’t done any solo exhibitions yet, Muzna recently participated in the ‘Azaadi Art Exhibition’, where she sold her work to help raise funds for the Aurat March. However, her biggest achievement to date has been growing her business – ‘Muzna Hatmi Art Prints’, and being a part of a community where ‘people appreciate her work enough to make space for it in their homes’.
On Running Her Business – ‘Muzna Hatmi Art Prints’
When FUCHSIA asked Muzna Hatmi about how she single-handedly runs her business (which includes setting price points, printing high-quality art prints, framing, shipping, etc.) this is what she had to say:
