Father’s day is just around the corner and as we celebrate the real heroes, let’s take a moment to pay tribute to the reel ones as well. Though these characters only have a fictitious existence, their impact is surely real! Here are five desi dads in Pakistani dramas that had us teary-eyed!

father's day, desi dads

1. Aziz in ‘Sabaat’

Aziz played by Syed Mohammad Ahmed won our hearts time and again in the drama serial ‘Sabaat’ as Anaya’s father. A soft-spoken man, kind to his wife and daughter, who lived a respectable life sums up his character in ‘Sabaat‘. We adored how he always stood behind his daughter whether it was when she needed guidance during her studies or even when she got married and started a new life. Anaya’s strong ethical and moral values reflected how he raised his daughter.

A dialogue from ‘Sabaat’ still rings in our ears when Miraal and Anaya have an argument in the office and Anaya answers “tarbiyat beech mein ajati hai”. The story beautifully sums up when Anaya names her son after her father- a perfect tribute we would say!

2. Sami in ‘Durr-e- Shehwar’

Another character of Mohammad Ahmed that had us in awe was Sami in ‘Durr-e-Shehwar’. A kind-hearted and humble soul, Sami always wanted the best for his daughters. We loved how he kept his daughters close to him and always had an ear to lend them. He was portrayed to be a fundamental character who aids his daughter in navigating the difficult years of her marriage. The letters exchanged between the daughter and father had our hearts and set a precedent that no drama to date has been able to top!

3. Munshi Jee in ‘Pyar Ke Sadqay’

The way Munshi Jee (Malik Raza) supported Mahjabeen and had her back was commendable. Despite working for his daughter’s in-laws, he wasn’t afraid to take a stand and was ready to pull the strings when it came to his daughter’s happiness. To put it simply, Munshi Jee aap ne tou hum sab ka dil jeet liya.

4. Salahuddin Baig in ‘Jo Bichar Gaye’

Sajid Shah as Salahuddin Baig portrayed the role of Sonia’s father in ‘Jo Bichar Gaye’. We believe that for Sonia’s authoritative and potent personality, her father deserves all the credit! He enabled his daughter to have a voice and never dismissed any of her ideas. He made sure she expressed herself and flaunted her opinions and even let her speak her mind on the topics he might disagree with! Till the end, we saw Salahuddin as a character who had his children’s back and we truly admire him for that!

5. All Dads In ‘Sinf-e-Aahan’

‘Sinf-e-Aahan‘ was absolutely in no way short of inspirational characters and we can say the same about all the fathers in the drama! We just could not pick one character and decided that all of them deserve to be included in the list.

From Mahjabeen’s father (Usman Peerzada) who respected his daughter’s decision and eventually encouraged her to pave her own path to Arzoo’s father Daniel (Syed Mohammad Ahmed) who did not let his fears overcome his daughter’s passion, we laud Shaista’s father (Asal Din Khan) for forgiving her for running away from home and then taking her to PMA and we certainly cannot go without mentioning Pariwesh’s father, Jamal who battled every obstacle in the way to help his daughter fulfill her dreams and most importantly became her friend and confidante!

Such were the men that carved those women into women of steel!

These roles have a deep-rooted impact on the audience that tunes in to watch them. Kudos to all the writers for writing such stirring and influencing characters. We assuredly need more stories and more characters like that, for a father is and will always remain a daughter’s hero and her first love! Happy Father’s Day from us to all fathers out there!
