1. Global Success Of Maula Jatt
The movie has made $10 million (PKR 220 crores) in worldwide box office receipts, according to Pinkvilla. Out of a total budget of $10 million, the movie has made $3.98 million (PKR 87.50 crores) in the domestic market and $6 million (PKR 132.50 crores) in foreign countries, including the US and UK.
Being one of the most expensive films ever produced in Pakistan, it has also achieved the highest box office success in the country’s history. With £1.39 million, the movie overtook Deepika Padukone‘s “Padmaavat” as South Asia’s top earner in the UK (2018).
But more than that, Maula Jatt has shown Pakistanis and the world, that there is a market for Pakistani cinema within and well beyond the borders of Pakistan! A proud moment indeed!
2. Joyland Taking Pakistan To New Heights
The first Pakistani competitor in the Festival de Cannes, Saim Sadiq’s Joyland, took home two awards. It won both the Prix Queer Palm and the Jury Prize for Un Certain Regard. 4. Ms. Marvel
Ms. Marvel put Pakistan in The MCU universe by featuring a Pakistani-American superhero and having Pakistani representation in a way that Pakistani could identify with. The Hollywood Reporter also published a list of episodes chosen by their TV critics that stood out on television due to their compelling plotlines. The list includes the highly praised Ms. Marvel episode Time and Again, directed by the Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker and starring Mehwish Hayat and Fawad Khan in the parts of Aisha and Hassan, respectively. The pair’s tragic love tale has now been named one of the Best TV Episodes of 2022.
