1. Only Shampoo Your Scalp
If you are dousing your entire head and luscious locks in shampoo, STOP. Mondo says, you should really only be shampooing and scrubbing your scalp. When you wash you ends, they tangle up and breaks the cuticles. And to further prevent breakage wash your scalp using non-circular motions which to be honest is a shocker for us too.
2. Don’t Brush Your Hair When It’s Wet
If your hair is prone to breakage and knots, Brad advises not to brush or untangle your hair when wet.
“When your hair is wet, it’s much more susceptible to breakage. It becomes twice as stretchy, and you don’t want to be tugging at it when it’s like that.”

Drying your hair till it’s about 80% dry and then brushing with a detangling brush would be best. He suggests using a tangle teezer or a wet brush.
3. Always Use A Heat Protectant Before Styling
He urges us to use a heat protectant no matter what!
“When we are using a hairdryer, flat iron or a curling iron, you’re exposing your hair to extremely high temperatures. It’s even higher than when you cook food in the oven so I would always recommend using a heat protector. It’s an easy thing to do to ensure your hair stays as healthy as possible – a no-brainer!”

4. Use An Optimal Temperature On Heated Styling Tools
Most of the hair tools we use are now digital and have adjustable temperatures. You could increase or decrease it however, Brad says that the temperature should be set according to your hair type, thickness or texture.
“You don’t need your straightener at its highest temperature — pretty much ever, if you have very coarse, curly hair, you might need that higher. Temperature to get your hair straight. But other than that, a middle temperature is good for everybody.”

Just because you are in a hurry setting it at the highest temperature is not going to do your hair any good.
5. An Aftercare Routine
Brad says, a great aftercare routine is key for healthy hair. Though, the type of products we use post a wash depends on our hair type. Below are some recommendations from Brad himself.
- Dry hair – Oils, hydrating serums and masks.
- Curly hair – Curl defining products, Frizz Free Serums.
- Colored hair – Strengthening treatments and color protecting serums.
