Kuch Ankahi balances laugh out moments with sober, poignant moments to give us an episode that’s high on love and even higher on messages – subtle ones though!

Shamo Is The Grey Character We Love
From Agha Jaan appreciating Shamo’s upbringing to Tanya preparing soup ala Gajar ka Halwa, the drama breaks down our expectations that girls must be sughar in the kitchen – boys can do that too, and Salman has his finger on the pulse of Women’s Day, it seems! What girls and boys must be, is considerate, caring, loving towards their family and parents, and that’s what Shamo and Agha Jaan’s daughters and Salman too, is acing so well!
When the entire family gets together to tend to their mother, we see that Shamo is the grey character we love to be portrayed onscreen – she is either one of us, or we know her in real life. When Tanya and Aaliya make Shakeel suffer the taste test, we grinned at the comic relief there, gulkand included ofc!
Agha Jaan Is Father’s Goal
And when Agha Jaan instructed Saif’s mom to send her son over for a talk with the father of the bride, we wiped away a tear or two, this is a father all young girls would love to have – one who takes on any impending risk to his daughter’s lives – they are not a burden on me, he says.
Kuch Ankahi also reveals the less likeable reality of Saif, ready to hoodwink his bride to be and her family by lying to Agha Jaan’s face. It also gives us Samiya, who trembles to meet her mom, ready to sacrifice everything for her happiness and peace of mind, in a day and age where young girls are taught to think about themselves first. And yet, we waiver between frustration at Samiya and love for her purity of emotion.
Two Romantic Relationships Unravel
Finally, Sophie phoppo and Thanvi are a potential match made in heaven and as the story closes in on these two, we look forward to not one, but two romantic relationships unravel – Salman & Aaliya as well as these two.
But wait a minute, the drama reminds us of Azfar, and his prospective meeting with Aaliya. Will there be some fireworks there? While the drama is sending out messages and laughter in every episode and we look forward to the new song Dildar, Salman & Aaliya shaking a leg or two, we would have liked to see more of Azfar, his back story and a more full-bodied depiction of the character who is, so far, a mystery to viewers too.
How can he, in all fairness, have any chance at winning Aaliya when we, the viewers are so hung up on Salman & Aaliya pairing? Aaah, but that’s for the writer to decide and we look forward to more on that front.
On a side note, we wish Kuch Ankahi could hand out two episodes next week. The story is warming up and shaadi ka double edition toh bunta hai, right!
