A TCF Story

They say you get to see the best of mankind in times of disasters and tragedy … well that’s what was witnessed in the small town of Pipri. Amid all the COVID bad news, here comes an uplifting and positive story … read on.

Pipri is a small village located near the port city of Pakistan – Karachi. 95 per cent of the population earn their living by begging on the streets. Every day they travel to Karachi on buses to beg or in search of small jobs.

TCF COVID team

With the COVID lockdown, all routes to the city were closed and there was no means of transportation to reach Karachi. Many families in this village were affected badly, resulting in many people having nothing or very little to eat for days.

Behram Rustomji Campus – A TCF school located at Gambat, a town nearby, has been educating children from this village for some time now. The staff of the school became aware of this situation. The head of the school Ms Rabail immediately went with her team from home to home to identify the needy families. TCF had set up a COVID response team as soon as the pandemic started. This team was communicated with the details and requirements of these families.

TCF team in collaboration with JazzCash, arranged for cash transfers for each of these families within a few days. Successful cash transfers of Rs. 2,500 to each of these families was carried out under the supervision of TCF. The families then bought rations from stores in Gambat.

So far TCF has carried out similar operations in 9 communities. To date, 4,942 households nationwide have been provided emergency relief through donations to TCF.

TCF aims to help families in 84 communities across the country (41 in Punjab, 30 in Sindh, 2 in KP and 11 in Balochistan).
