Since 2021 is just a few weeks away, Let’s reminisce about the most debated topics that were trending worldwide on Twitter.

Did you know? Since we were all home this year, ‘#Quarantine’ was the most used word on Twitter. It’s mentioned over 1.6 million times! Moreover, #StayHome and #Covid19 were trending on top too. That’s not all! The word #Home was used 143% more than 2019!

#BlackLivesMatter & #Transrightsarehumanrights were trending under Top 3. The world amplified the need for equality and social justice following the death of George Floyd, who was the third most-Tweeted-about person globally. The usage of these words increased by 557% in 2020! (Believe it or not…this is the truth)

Passing of Chadwick Boseman Brought The World Together!

In August, people came together to honor the tragic passing of Marvel’s “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman, who died at age 43 after a four-year battle with cancer. The tweet announcing his passing was the most liked, retweeted and quote tweeted in the U.S. in 2020.

Korean Pop Sensation and the seven-member boy band BTS have over 31 million followers on Twitter, are continuing to build their roster of diehard fans who call themselves the A.R.M.Y., an acronym for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth. They snagged the title of being the most tweeted music celebrities of this year. Following Kanye West as second and Beyoncé on third! (Calling out all BTS fans, happy or not?)

On a lighter note…The Laughing Emoji was the most used emoji on Twitter! Well…it’s everyone’s favourite & we know that well! (HAHA!)

The emoji 😂 appeared in 32.6m Tweets and 😭 featured in 10.4m Tweets.

Big Brother Brazil Becomes The Most Discussed TV Show Of 2020!

Big Brother Brazil reached number 1 spot as the most retweeted show of the year (we usually know the Indian version as Bigg Boss). Tiger King, the show that took Netflix by storm, is another notable feature in the top 10 list. Surprisingly, Money Heist and Game of Thrones carried over into this year’s list as well, at number 7 and 8 – some shows are just too epic-worthy, right?
