When I first tried this recipe everyone loved it, and here’s a little secret, the pie plate was empty within an hour! Yes, that’s right, it’s just THAT good.

Here’s the recipe for the all time favorite Ditch apple Pie
First to make the pie dough:
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter
- 3 Tbsp ice water
Method:
In a bowl, add the flour, sugar and salt and whisk well. Then add the semi softened butter and mix it in the dry ingredients. Add in water to just make the ingredients come together in a dough form. If needed you can add a bit more water but remember, it shouldn’t be too soft!
Make the dough, wrap it in cling film and place it in the freezer till you make the apple filling!

The Apple filling
Ingredients
- 6 or 7 medium apples
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 8 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup brown sugar
Method:
In a pan melt the butter, add in the flour and mix well. Pour water and the sugar into the pan, stir well until it forms a rich caramel texture. If needed you may add in a drop or two more of water. When it’s done, set aside to cool.
Thinly slice the apples in a separate bowl, pour in the caramel and cinnamon and mix well. Make sure the apples are generously coated with the filling sauce!

Now for the crumbly crust
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 8 Tbsp (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/4 cup crushed almonds
Method:
Whisk all the ingredients well. Just remember the butter will help make the crust more crumbly!

Setting the dish
Take the pie dough out of the freezer and roll it out just so it fits the dish and covers the sides too. Then add in the apple filling, level it and cover it with the crumbly topping.
Place the dish into the oven, preheated at 375°F (190°C) and let it bake for 50 minutes, until the bottom pie crust is light golden and the top is golden with the yummy sauce bubbling through it

When I make this dessert, I usually like having it just by itself. You can also serve it with a slice of chocolate cake or ice cream! (It goes well with vanilla ice cream though!)
