Take the magic formula of Ahad & Sajal onscreen, add a generous serving of Umera Ahmed’s unparalleled writing & Haseeb Hassan’s stellar direction – what do you get? A Zee5 production in the pipeline & perhaps a Netflix watch as well! 2021 you just got better!
After the massive hit of the other two ZEE5 web series, Ek Jhooti Love Story and Churails, the audience avidly anticipates the release of the upcoming series, Dhoop ki Dewar. While we continue to anticipate the release date, here are five things you need to know about Dhoop ki Deewar!
1. A remarkable cast in one frame including our favorites, Sajal and Ahad
Dhoop ki Dewaar, consists of an ensemble cast including Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir. Sajal will be playing the character of Sarah who is the daughter of a Pakistani colonel, played by Adnan Jafar. However, the other cast members will be hefty crowd pullers on their own, as the cast includes Samiya Mumtaz as Ahad’s mother and Zaib Rehman as Ahad’s grandmother. Also, Samina Ahmed and Manzar Sehbai will be playing the role of Sajal’s grandparents. Others in the cast include Savera Nadeem as Sajal’s mother, Raza Talish, Paras Masroor and others.
Wildly anticipated cast dynamics are driving fans super excited!
2. A seemingly convoluted yet captivating story line by Umera Ahmed
Dhoop ki Dewaar is written by the phenomenal writer, Umera Ahmed. Indeed, Umera Ahmed’s dramas are considered to be classics and the list includes dramas like Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Shehr e Zaat and Meri Zaat Zarra e Benishaan. It is a story of two teenagers, Sarah and Vishaal and the love-hate relationship between Pakistanis and Indians. Needless to say, that the story will have many hidden layers just like any other Umera Ahmed piece of work.
“Dhoop Ki Deewar is not a love story: it is a love-hate story based on the love-hate relationship between people of India and Pakistan. That’s the only way WE can write and read a love story between these two people, ..That’s what almost 70 years of unending hatred does to people and their sensibilities. And the most difficult thing for a writer in the subcontinent is to write an Indo-Pak love story.”Umera Ahmed on Instep, The News
It is, as always, left to the Art fraternity to build bridges in a world where others are bent on breaking them. Dhoop Ki Deewar has been inspired by true life events.
3. A vividly enchanting direction by Haseeb Hassan
The series is directed by renowned director, Haseeb Hassan who is credited for directing many successful dramas including Alif, Mann Mayal, Dayar-e-Dil and the movie Parwaaz Hai Junoon. Furthermore, the filming of the web series covers prize regions of Pakistan including Lahore, Azad Kashmir, Karachi, and Swat District. We cannot wait to see the picturesque shots and prodigious direction of Haseeb Hassan.

4. Big release on various OTT Platforms!
The show is set to be released on ZEE5 in 2021. However, there are rumors that the web series will also be releasing on Netflix. Netflix users cannot be more excited!
5. A cross-border love story, based on social issues
Dhoop ki Deewar is not simply a love story. It walks around the Pakistan-Indian clashes and the consequences of war and how it adversely affects the lives of a common man. It is a story about two teenagers and how their lives change overnight. Inspired by true events, the series attempts to highlight the enduring aftermath of war. Through her writing Umera Ahmed sends out a message of universal peace, showing that hatred has brought nothing but destruction on both sides.
Although, there is no official release date set by now, we are eagerly anticipating our favourite couple, Sajal Ali and Ahad Raza Mir back on the screen. The series seems to have a promising plot which is backed by incredible direction & screen writing! We hope that Dhoop ki Dewar captures audience attention just like the previous two series of ZEE5.
