Gumn – suspicion, doubt, presumption or simply an idea? Furqan Qureshi stars in this Sarmad Khoosat thriller. Need any more reasons to watch? We’ll give you 6!

Well first thing’s first, Gumn has us more excited than a few projects recently and there are more than a handful of reasons why. Without any further ado, I will directly get to the reasons why you should be looking forward to Gumn:

1. Gumn will be airing on a new TV channel – GREEN

While present channels are turning out mind-blowing content – Raqeeb Se, Dunk and Raqs e Bismil to name a few, there’s a new kid on the block – TV channel – Green. More channels should translate into more competition and hence, better content, right? Let’s keep things optimistic here shall we? There’s always room for ONE more, as they say!

2. A new writer in town

It’s always exciting to view content from new minds – new writer. Remember what Sabaat gave us? Model turned actress, whom we lost saw in Dushman-e-Jaan, Tooba Siddiqui has embarked on a new venture and explored the world of literature. We wish her good luck on this first!

3. Another TV drama directed by our Humsafar director -Sarmad Khoosat!

Sarmad Khoosat is a brand in himself – and a fairly marketable one at that! He needs no introduction – known for creating masterpieces like Humsafar, Shehr-e-Zaat, Baaghi and Manto. These are just a few among the list of remarkable contributions to the Pakistani television and film industry. Sooo, when a bright mind like his is onto something, we can expect something wondrous!

Sarmad Khoosat is the man in the director’s chair for Gumn and we are anticipating what he has in store for us.

4. A supremely talented cast

After winning the nation (fairly fast), with his acting prowess on television and web, heartthrob Furqan Qureshi will now be staring in the upcoming drama serial ‘Gumn’. The talented actor has once again proved his knack of choosing diverse and unconventional roles such as Noor in Khuda Mera Bhi Hai. Apart from this, he has also starred in Ishq Tamasha, Raqs-e-Bismil, Inteqaam, Muqaddas and Bharas and drama serial Meray Pass Tum Ho. Furqan also starred in two web-series alongside renowned actors in Ek Jhooti Love Story and Daasi.

Furqan will be playing the lead role along side many other actors such as Zara Tareen, Usman Peerzada, Agha Mustafa and multiple guest appearances.

“What really sold me was the fact that this project is directed by Sarmad Khoosat and that too a thriller. These days’ actors don’t really get much of a chance to do something different like this and perhaps that is why I chose to do this project, … The cast is wonderful, there’s a lot of great energy on set and this is Tooba’s debut as a writer so we’re all very excited.”

5. A story different from our typical genres- A thriller which we hardly see in Pakistani dramas!

While it is common knowledge that most Pakistani TV serials are based on the genres of romance or drama, once in a blue moon we get to see something out of the box. This is true for the upcoming show, Gumn. We are anticipating that the team is able to handle the genre delicately and the viewers do not lose interest midway!

6. A concise thirteen episode drama which assuredly reminded us of the old PTV era!

Yes! You heard it right! The drama serial Gumn will comprise of 13 episodes, not 20, not 30! For some it would have reminded them of the old PTV dramas while for some like me it gives a hint of a Netflix limited season. The lead actor had similar thoughts:

“This is a 13 episode serial, normally serials these days are around 26 episodes, so this takes me back in time when dramas used be short like Tanhaiyaan, for instance. This is the first time I’m doing a 13 episode serial and that in itself is also very exciting.”

Are as excited about this new TV project. Let’s hope that it is able to prove us right and provide a rocking source of entertainment in the coming season – fingers crossed!
