After a long battle with age-related illnesses, Dilip Kumar has left us all. The news was confirmed by his friend, Faisal Farooqui via Kumar’s Twitter account. Since the news, fans, friends and colleagues have paid tribute and recounted cherished memories online.

Early Works

Kumar started his career in 1944 with Jwar Bhata, produced by the Bombay Talkies. We later saw him in Ganga Jamuna, Ram Aur Shyam and the mega-hit Mughal-E-Azam alongside Madhubala, a film with a budget of 15 million INR and which took 16 years to make. Kumar worked in the industry for more than fifty years and gave us many hits to remember him by.

All of them have gone too soon. However, they gave us movies and plays we’ll forever cherish!

Dilip Kumar aka Muhammad Yusuf Khan had strong ties in Pakistan as well. He was very much loved & respected & is known to have visited Pakistan prior to Madame Noor Jehan’s passing away.

Our PM Tweeted

Saddened to learn of Dilip Kumar's passing. I can never forget his generosity in giving his time to help raise funds for SKMTH when project launched. This is the most difficult time – to raise first 10% of the funds & his appearance in Pak & London helped raise huge amounts.

There’s no denying that Dilip Kumar and our very own SRK had a close bond. Many called it the bond similar to that of a father and son. Shah Rukh also stated in an interview a while ago that Dilip Saab was his favourite inspiration.

The best way to remember and honor Dilip Kumar is by carrying forward his legacy, honor his art and hard work along with all he’s done over the years. Our deepest condolences to his wife, Saira Bano and we wish her all the power and strength during this rough time.

I’ll leave you here, but with Udein Jab Jab Zulfein Teri. We’ll always remember Dilip jee smiling.

Till next time.
