Making an impact by playing a negative character is challenging. With lots of new trends and ideas that we witnessed in our dramas this year, negative roles clearly took an edge. We saw some well-known names of the industry playing some abhorrent characters and portraying human frailties with conviction this year. Let us see who stood out in the run!

1. Sana Javaid – Amal From Dunk

Dunk started with a not-so-clear view and kept the viewers confused. Sana Javaid played the victim in such a convincing way with that fright in her eyes, that clueless face when she was among her friends, the guilt that she portrayed in front of her parents. All gold coins for Sana Javaid for keeping everyone confused till the drama revealed the truth.
2. Yashma Gill – Shiza From Azmaish

Not every stepmother is evil, this was the first message that was conveyed successfully in Azmaish. Yashma played the role of Shiza, the evilest stepdaughter and step-sister. She was arrogant, stubborn, manipulating, and what not! It was a tough role as Yashma had to tell something new and be the evil, not-so-innocent stepdaughter. There was not one person who did not hate Shiza. Kudos to Yashma Gill for such a convincing performance!
3. Gohar Rasheed – Daniyal From Laapata

Powerpack performance by Gohar Rasheed. He depicted the negativity of a psychologically challenged person so well. From the flashbacks of his first marriage, the moment he killed his wife and had no remorse on his face, to the most popular scene of the drama where he hit his wife and gets slapped in return – Gohar Rasheed made sure to convince viewers that Daniyal could only be played by him and only him.
4. Ahsan Khan – Murad from Qissa Meharbano Ka

Ahsan Khan swayed the role of Imtiaz Ali Shaikh years back in Udaari. It was his first portrayal as a bad man in any drama but he managed to mark an impact and was talked about more than any other character of Udaari.
Qissa Meharbano Ka is a story that revolves around a woman played by Mawra Hoccane but the bad boy of the drama, Murad is becoming the highlight of the show. All thanks to Ahsan Khan and his tremendous depiction of a greedy and intemperate man. It is his conviction that his character is getting more applause than anyone else in the show.
5. Kubra Khan – Mashal from Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay

It is impossible to sum up the role of Mashal. The jealousy, the envy, the restlessness of the character made everyone hate and only hate Mashal but now as the drama has unfolded, Mashal has become relatable and we were able to read her mind and to some extent, feel for her as well. Kubra Khan managed to turn the table in just one episode where both cousins get closure. It was only because of her brilliant performance that viewers are now feeling sorry for Mashal. Kubra made it clear that not every person is black or white, there is a possibility of grey at times too.
6. Nauman Ijaz – Behroz from Parizaad

Seth Behroz, the role seemed to be written for Nauman Ijaz. The man who is a criminal and killed his wife without thinking twice should be hated but kudos to the writer and Nauman Ijaz for making people feel sorry for Seth Behroz. Nobody could stop admiring Nauman Ijaz, especially for the scene where he commits suicide yet, depicted with only grace and poise.
