So the other day I was just scrolling through Instagram and stumbled across a page that was selling Valentine’s Day bouquets, baskets, and all that jazz (just me pretending not to care because I’ll be spending my Valentine’s day in my pajamas). While looking at the prices, I thought to myself..who in the world can afford all of this!? Especially when you are a young couple that is just starting out. But, what if I told you that Valentine’s day can be just as special if you spend it at home (and in your budget). Hear me out…

valentine's day, date ideas

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and by now, the prices of anything gift-worthy (flowers, chocolates, etc) are already soaring. We blame capitalism. Anywho, don’t panic. Who says you have to empty your bank account just to make your loved ones happy? As they say, it’s the thought that counts. As long as you are happy in each other’s company, fancy dinner dates can wait!

There are countless ways to make this Valentine’s day special, that are also not too heavy on the pocket but still loaded with immense love! Well, what are they, you ask? Keep scrolling to find 3 Valentine’s day date ideas if you’re on a budget, or even if you are not the type to go overboard on these occasions and like keeping things lowkey yet equally thoughtful & romantic!

1. A Home Cooked Meal

I think we can all agree that food is the best love language there is! And what better way to feel your loved ones feel special than to make them a home-cooked meal? A romantic candlelight dinner in your living room, reminiscing old times, how he was head over heels in love with you but you weren’t having it but gave in eventually (and now he teases you about it) Sounds adorable if you ask us!

Or better yet, cook together! Doesn’t get more intimate and romantic than that, don’t you think?

Here is a recipe you can try:

Taragon Chicken Pasta

Cut a 250 g chicken fillet in half. Cover the fillets with a cling wrap and pound them with a meat mallet slightly.

Marination

  • 1 tsp dried Oregano
  • 1 tsp crushed Black pepper
  • 1 tsp crushed cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp dried Taragon leaves
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 1 tsp crushed garlic
  • 2 tbs lemon juice
  • 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbs Olive oil

Mix well and marinate the chicken for 30 minutes. Slightly grease the grill pan with Olive oil, grill the marinated chicken on low flame until done. Once done, cut the chicken into slices and set aside.

Taragon sauce

  • 2 tbs Olive oil
  • 1-2 tbs butter (let it melt)
  • 1 chopped onion (small)
  • 1 tbs chopped garlic
  • 1 cup chicken stock (bring it to boil)
  • Add 1 cup cream

Whisk well and turn on the heat. Now add:

  • 1 tsp crushed Black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried Oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3-4 tbs grated Parmesan cheese

Mix well. now add the pasta of your choice, boiled of course, and mix again. Serve on a plate and add your chicken slices on top.

Who says only teenage couples can make each other playlists? And no it’s not a cliche, especially when each song you add to the playlist plays a special role in your relationship. You know that one song that was playing in the background when he held your hand for the first time? Yeah, that song. That song & others like it. Put them together in a playlist and play it on shuffle while you have a quiet dinner at home.

Need some inspiration? Here is a playlist Team FUCHSIA made for all those who are madly in love and aren’t afraid to show it!

If else nothing works, a good old movie night is your answer!

Light those scented candles that haven’t been burned yet because you were waiting for a special moment. Well, this is that moment. Make your favorite flavor of popcorn in the microwave or whatever snack you like both like, throw around some fairy lights, dim the lights, and put on an old classic romantic movie that you both like, and hey, it doesn’t have to be romantic, you can watch any genre, even horror (I don’t judge) as long as it makes you both happy!

if you are still confused about what to watch, here are Team FUCHSIA’s 8 movie recommendations for Valentine’s day. Make your pick and enjoy!

And there you have it! 3 Valentine’s Day date ideas where you can just chill at home, save yourself from becoming broke yet, have a wonderful time with your significant other. If you’re too lazy to do anything, just sit across from each other and talk, catch up if you haven’t been able to because of your hectic routine. Trust me, it doesn’t get better this. Happy Valentine’s Day. Spread the love!
