Sania Saeed is well known for her exceptional performances and diverse roles. Be it Mehrunissa from Sitara Aur Mehrunissa or Zarghona from Sang e Mah, her on-screen presence has left a mark on us. FUCHSIA sat down with her recently as she shared insights into her upcoming film Kamli, along with some facts! Let’s dive right in, shall we?

Sania Talks Kamli’s Script

Jab script mere pas aayi toh mein ne buhat kehar alood nigahon se Sarmad Khoosat ko dekha 3 minute. For both me & Saba it’s a very difficult script because hum shooting paharon mein, daryaon mein kr rahe thay aur bas samandar bacha tha shoot krne ko.
Sania Saeed
“The movie’s amazing script was written by Fatimah Sattar. After reading I got to know that my character has a disability which was challenging yet good. Also, since the script was revised multiple times, it was sharpened perfectly. Our characters’ dilemmas are difficult to convey. Moreover, communicating the stances of all the characters was hard and there was a risk of them going overboard as well. Hence, in this script, everyone thinks that their character is tough to play.”
Sania On Kamli’s Women Centric Team

Humara badi female dominated production thi pori. Humare sab production heads except for cinematography were all women. So, the director (Sarmad Khoosat) was a man & the cinematography crew were men, but everyone else was a woman. Kanwal Khoosat was the head of productions, but us ne set lagaya tha jungle mein aur woh set ki choti se choti detail tak handle kr rahi thi.
Sania Saeed
“Our production heads were all female except for cinematography. Kamli’s set was very female-dominated, and all the departments were handled by women. Frankly, if we got the chance, our drivers might be women as well. Moreover, on the sets of Kamli, we all constantly switch from one job to another and try to help each other to improve their work.”
Nothing But Praises For Saba Qamar

Saba ko chootein lagi aur us ki himmat hai because mausamon ka bhi issue tha. Pahariyaan chardhna utarna was hard. Woh bari energetic hai, subah 5 baje k call peh woh 4:15 peh uth kar beithi hoti hai makeup ki chair peh. Buhat passionate hai Saba.
Sania Saeed
“For Saba, the script was both physically & emotionally difficult. Saba had to go under the water in cold-freezing weather for her scenes and had to climb mountains. Saba is very energetic because the entire process was complex, and only she could do it. Also, Saba couldn’t appear to seem tired because she is the main focus of the story. Moreover, from the choreography of the songs to the challenging shoots, it was all tough, but she did it.”
Sania Saeed Wants You To Watch Kamli Without Labels

Kahaniyon ko is tarah labels k dibon mein dal kr dekhna aur is expectation k sath jana, I think is a disservice to the story. The story will reveal itself to you really slowly and maza us hi waqt ayega when you go watch it without labeling it. Khuaish humari yehi hai k log Kamli ko open-mindedly dekhein.
Sania Saeed
“When we watch stories we don’t see them beyond labels, which is not right. We should never put stories in a box of a particular expectation and label them with tags because this is a disservice to the story itself. Hence, the story will slowly reveal itself to you to keep you on your toes for enjoying it from start to end. Therefore, we wish that the audience watches Kamli with an open mind.”
Sania Saeed Gives Us Reasons To Watch Kamli

It’s a great story, it has great music and its a Sarmad Khoosat film.
Sania Saeed
According to her, the audience should watch Kamli with patience and try to enjoy the ride. Kamli is a commercial film like any other film, but all formula films that we think will be successful, do have the risk of not getting accepted. Hence, we need to alter our idea of commercial films while accepting narratives of movies like Kamli. “So, I am repeatedly asking you to watch Kamli with an open mind, to accept, understand and enjoy the narrative.”
