Pakistanis Think Bollywood Has Plagiarised Nach Punjaban – Here’s The Story!

Hey Bollywood, Pakistanis are not happy. The latest song on the block, Nach Punjaban is more like a Pakistani Anthem from their beloved Abrarul Haq…how did it come up in 2022, that too, apparently without credits?

Bollywood, Nach Punjaban

Abrar ul Haq’s original (and nation’s favorite) Nach Punjaban seems to have been replicated in ‘Jug Jug Jeeyo’, Karan Johar’s latest production, which is being called out for using Nach Punjaban in its trailer (with slightly different lyrics but the same beat…basically the same song).

Soon after the trailer was released, Nach Punjaban original singer Abrar Ul Haq came out with an official statement on Twitter denying claims of selling the song to any Indian movie, stating that this is his 6th song being ‘copied.’ He wrote,

“I have not sold my song “ Nach Punjaban” to any Indian movie and reserve the rights to go to court to claim damages. Producers like @karanjohar should not use copy songs. This is my 6th song being copied which will not be allowed at all.”

Karan Johar or anyone else from the Jug Jug Jeeyo team has not made any official statements regarding the matter as of yet.

The Disappointment Is Real!

Fans were rightfully upset and didn’t shy away from expressing their feelings on Twitter. Some also requested Abrar Ul Haq to take immediate action against the makers. Here’s what they are tweeting:

“You should send them notice, enough is enough. As they claim Pakistan is not a good country but they copy our songs, our movies, even scenes from our dramas. If Pakistan is so bad why you copy us? @karanjohar“

“Layers of disappointment to Nach Punjaban in JugJugg Jeeyo trailer: Why not an original composition? If you were going to use it, why not keep Abrar Ul Haq’s voice? If you weren’t going to keep his voice, why not name him in the credits? Shame because I like the trailer otherwise”

Abrar Ul Haq’s Nach Punjaban

Jug Jug Jeeyo’s Trailer

Jug Jug Jeeyo stars Bollywood veterans Neetu Kapoor and Anil Kapoor along with Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani. It is set to release on 24th June 2022.

Do you think global artists should give credit to the original creators even if they’ve bought the licenses for the creation?

Update

In a recent development, the makers of Jug Jug Jeeyo have added Abrar ul Haq’s name to the song’s credits. We hope this welcome move will neutralise the situation a little on both sides. What do you think?
