With a bitter sweet ending, some surprises and some questionable twists, Sang-e-Mah wraps up the last episode. Were you surprised as well?

With repetitive references to the story being inspired by Hamlet, and the promo last week, almost everyone assumed that we will witness Hilmand’s death.
But now Director Saife Hassan and writer Mustafa Afridi must have a big smile on their faces as they surprised us with the return of Hilmand in the Jirga and saving the day in total Maverick style. We sure didn’t expect this one… what about you guys?
But and there is a big BUT; we were disappointed to see the drama propagating suicide through Haji Marjan and Zarsangha’s characters. Two characters we had admired, respected and who had been symbols of courage, sacrifice and principles, were shown to just give up instead of facing the roadblock ahead.
It just doesn’t fit in with the character arc of these two. On top of that, the drama romanticised the notion of committing suicide together. It was unfortunate to see this plot twist delivered from such a brilliantly executed drama by Team Sang-e-Mah.
Also Haji Marjan, who didn’t reveal any details about who really poisoned Hilmand’s father and was ready to take all the blame upon himself to save Hilmand from the emotional trauma of discovering the reality about his parents, how can he leave Hilmand to live with this pain and guilt for the rest of his life?
The Moments We Just Loved
Hilmand’s return, his asking Gul Meena to hand him whatever punishment she thinks he deserves, Sheherzade telling Hikmet she will bring Hilmand back home, Hilmand showing the empty file to Hikmet
When the charge had been given to Hikmet by Haji Marjan then maybe the script should have let Hikmet deliver some cool hero-like steps as well, rather than just being a silent bystander wearing the Pagri.
The drama sent out a very significant and uplifting message about women empowerment. Together women can fight for any cause and can make anything happen.
