Pakistani Dramas You Might Be Watching In 2023

Pakistani dramas have never failed to impress their viewers. Be it daily soaps or TV serials, every story has its own genre. From Parizaad to Mere Humsafar, Qissa Meherbano Ka to Dobara, indeed these unconventional stories have kept audiences glued to TV screens. Since viewership is not limited to TV channels, these dramas have managed to reach their viewers through Youtube and other OTT platforms.
We are stepping in 2023 with some fresh concepts that have changed the face of television serials. Emerging writers have also given a slight push to story-telling and presentation. Hence, making our desi TV shows worth watching. Just like 2022, 2023 has a bunch of promising, fresh and creative stories lined up for us.
Here’s a sneak peek at the new dramas we are looking forward to this year.
1. Kuch Ankahi

The drama Kuch Ankahi is purported to be a social comedy with a message- a project of Ary Digital. It is written by Mohammed Ahmed, directed by Nadeem Baig and co-produced by Kashf Foundation and Six Sigma Plus. Kuch Ankahi is about family values, women empowerment, strong female characters and more. It’s the rom-com we were all waiting for.
The drama stars Bilal Abbas Khan, Sajal Aly, Mohammed Ahmed, Irsa Ghazal, Mira Sethi, Adnan Samad, Babar Ali, Vaneeza Ahmed and Qudsia Ali. It will be aired on ARY Digital.

2. Yunhi

Directed by Mohammad Ehteshamuddin, the upcoming HUM TV drama Yunhi is about two people who meet, they share the same roots, but they have grown up or matured in different societies. Call it a love story, how the two of them fall in love, tolerate each other, respect each other and change each other.
Yunhi is about cultural diversity. How people from different societies come together and live with each other. Written by Sarwat Nazir and starring Maya Ali and Bilal Ashraf.

3. Pyari Mona

Another Hum TV project Pyari Mona is all set to break stereotypes related to body shaming. Actress Sanam Jung posted the first look at the drama describing why she took up this role and how challenging it was. “Playing Pyari Mona was quite challenging not only as an actor but also because our industry has very stringent standards of how a woman should look, especially when she’s the lead,” she wrote.
Starring Sanam Jung, Adeel Hussain, Mashal Khan, Sabeeka Imam and Mohammad Hunbal. Directed by Ali Hassan and written by Haseeb Ahmed, this drama should be on the must-watch list.
4. Sar-e-Raah

An Idreams production Sar-e-Raah is all set to set the drama industry on fire with its ground-breaking story. Sar-e-Raah will be addressing issues like the rights of the intersex community, gender equality, women empowerment, and even infertility. The cast includes Saba Qamar, Hareem Farooq, Sunita Marshal, Saboor Aly and Muneeb Butt as lead characters.
The drama is written by Adeel Razzak and directed by Ahmed Bhatti. Muneeb Butt will be seen playing the role of an intersex person and the story will show the struggles of the intersex community in order to survive in society. The ensemble cast is supposed to essay powerful characters onscreen.
5. Hook

Once again another drama is already on air on ARY Digital named Hook. Hook is a love story of two university students living a simple life when an influential family gets in between and makes it all about the family feud. The cast includes veterans like Saima Noor, Faysal Qureshi, Hina Dilpazir along with Zain Baig, Kinza Hashmi and Shehroz Sabzwari.
The drama is written by Shagufta Bhatti and Shahid Dogar and directed by Mohsin Mirza. However, the first two episodes have already been aired and the fans are waiting for the story to unfold.
