Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha -Did Saad really think Maheer would say no before so many people?

Qabool Hai…the shock on Saad’s face… the sadness of that one moment was heavy on our hearts. It also made us do a double take on the sad reality that a girl’s ‘qabool hai’ is a mere formality?
Driving Mindsets?
Unfortunately, what stories like Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha might be doing is telling young girls’ parents that it is okay to tell their daughters to marry anyone, that too, last minute – consult lies beyond the Qabool Hai, and although we know Saad is going to accept that, what if some other guy didn’t?
The evil of Areeb’s mother is just unbelievable. She is not even scared of breaking someone’s heart even though her husband is in critical condition in the hospital. Moreover, did Areeb’s meltdown in the hospital hint at something deeper? Is there a hint of madness in the behavior there? We know that Areeb’s mom is toxic material, but did Areeb just show us that he has something lurking in him too?
Is Areeb’s Character Losing Out?
It will be unfortunate if Maheer’s love interest cannot be painted with brighter colors. After all, the conflict can still exist, that her parents forced a marriage despite Areeb being a good guy. Why manipulate Maheer’s heart by showing Saad to be the better one eventually? Or are we jumping the gun here? Maybe just maybe, Areeb will surprise us.
On Another Note, Thoughts On The Predictable Plot Twist
Do you think there was any way Areeb could have communicated his reason for delay with Maheer? Can we truly say it was just unfortunate how things happened? We thought Saad would try at least once to go and bring Areeb, or find out what really went wrong, for Maheer’s sake. But he didn’t. The story turned out to be a stereotypical and predictable plot twist that we have seen play out zillions of times, but it is saved merely due to a star cast, slightly better execution and of course, the magical background score ‘Kahani Suno’. How we wish desperately that our writers and production houses would experiment with new ideas and new stories.
Not Needed Toxicity To Make Us Feel For Saad Even More?
Maheer’s father constantly blaming Saad was completely unfair, Saad merely exercised his right to say no. Maybe as a father, he should have been more vigilant about the family his daughter was getting married into.
To Sum It Up
Saad is definitely coming out the hero here. And that too, by doing practically nothing. While Saad fans have no problems with that, perhaps the story needs to challenge mindsets and push the envelope a bit more, characters need to be more full bodied to hand out a gripping watch – let’s hope Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha can scratch the surface and delve deeper into human, love and social sensibilities.
