
On 27th February, late evening, the Quaid-e-Azam University, a reputed institute in Islamabad, shut down after reports of clashes between two student groups in the hostels. Unfortunately, the clash occurred between two ethnic groups, Balochis & Pakhtuns, despite the university, which itself is named after our Quaid, who taught us to not let caste, culture and creed drift us apart.
The Sudden Actions
There were reports of the situation getting out of hand and resulting in 16 students being injured. While all students, males and females were asked to vacate the hostels in the middle of the night. Even female students were taken into police vans during the entire evacuation process.
Police officials were called in to contain the situation reached the site and broke the fights, and ensured the students vacate the premises. Some students have also come out on social media detailing being mishandled by the police.
The Latest Update
Currently, all entry points to the university have been sealed until further notice, as per the university officials. According to news reports, the reason for the quarrel was a disagreement between students at the boy’s hostel. Videos from the scene shared on social media showed large groups of students charging at each other with batons, sticks, and stones. Injured students were rushed to the hospital and are under treatment.

The Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) campus turned into a battleground on Monday as two student groups clashed by using batons and sticks, which left several students injured.
Before the Quaid I Azam University, Islamabad, reopens, there will be a comprehensive reform plan in place to ensure peace & safety on the campus. This will take time, but the cycle of violence, impunity, and instability perpetrated by a few at the expense of the many, has to end.
Police on Wednesday booked nearly 60 students following a clash between two groups at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad.
I cannot and will not extend an ethnicity-specific helping hand ever. As for what I can do I will do for the students of Quaid-i-Azam university regardless of their racial profiling.
The raid of police in quaid I azam university shows the failure of the state machinery to protect its students from abuse of power. We request the authorities to stop this barbarism.
Over the years, there have been several reports on the problematic environment of the university and continued violent events. This is yet another major event. This is still a developing story as yet.
