Can’t think of any weekend plans? Fast X is here to fire up your week! Here are 3 new movies you can watch at the cinema. Find out which ones we’re most excited for!

Each time we try to do switch our weekends to ‘original’ mode, we end up doing the top 3 things to do in Karachi: eating out, watching a movie or shopping! Unless something special is happening. Thanks (not) to COVID 19, our homes became our inhouse cinemas for a couple of years and now, as the world is still getting back to its old ways, we have returned to the original cinemas to watch our most loved movies in full grandeur with crispy popcorn and nachos and the trusted chilled drink to sip lovingly as the drama unravels onscreen!
This summer season seems to be extremely nostalgic for us millennials/90’s babies or those who are big fans of classics. So if you are currently wondering what to do for your summer vacations, plans for the weekend or just a regular chill night with friends and family – we give you the 3 movies we are most excited to go watch in cinemas and so should you.
Check out these 3 movies that are showing:
1. The Little Mermaid -For The Disney Classic Lover In You
Disney’s 90’s babies who have lived on all Disney classics have probably booked the first show already but if your are like us and still haven’t found the time to, here is us telling you that the the live action remake of our beloved, childhood animated The Little Mermaid is here. Directed by Disney’s very own Rob Marshall, it is now finally showing in cinemas after nearly three years of production.
The story is the original from Hans Christian Andersen’s which Disney then made a cartoon musical of in 1989. Narrating the story of King Triton’s youngest daughter, Ariel who remains fascinated with the world above the deep seas she’s confined to. She ends up making a deal with her evil aunt Ursula to be able to walk to make Prince Eric fall in love with her. If she fails to do so, she’ll turn back into a mermaid and belong to Ursula forever. A tale as old as time!
The lead is the Disney singer, Halle Bailey who has also contributed to the movie’s soundtracks. Our favourite though was Flounder, the little chubby blue and yellow fish who was Ariel’s sidekick, though we are anxious as there has been much flak about Flounder seeming uncomfortably realistic in appearance, losing the essence of the character.
2. Fast X – For The ‘Need For Speed’ In You!
Fast X is one movie that makes us more nostalgic than any other. Can you believe it, the first part released 21 years ago and it’s still going strong?
The global action franchise has released its 10th movie which is said to have been divided into 2 parts. Our teenage years are more and more reminiscent of Fast and Furious as it nears an end.
The 10th entry in the franchise series of course sees the return of our favorite Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto and his “familia” for more fast cars, chaos and action! We will also see plenty of new faces: Brie Larson (Captian Marvel), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) and even rap queen Cardi B!
Fast X will lead us to one final ride, one final cliffhanger before Fast & Furious 11 or Fast X: Part 2 which will be the final instalment in the franchise, expected to release in 2025.
The movie has seen some turbulence before its release, initially set to be directed by Justin Lin who was also the director for Fast and Furious 5,6 and 9. However the director was announced to have exited the project due to disagreements with Vin Diesel.
French filmmaker Louis Leterrier had taken over as director, he is known for movies like the Transporter, Incredible Hulk and now you see me.
We will still miss Paul Walker but the team has, since his death, made sure he lives on in the franchise.
3. Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 – For The Marvel Junkie In You!
This one is for our Marvel fans who are Marvel Cinematic Universe junkies living for the post credit scenes.
Directed by James Gunn, this superhero film is based on the Marvel Comics of Guardians Of The Galaxy. The film is a sequel to the Guardians of the Galaxy series and the 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In Marvel Studio’s third instalment for Guardians Of The Galaxy, the band of misfits are making way for their new lives on Knowhere, soon they find their lives in danger from the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill still reeling from the loss of Gamora has to now rally his team around him for a volatile mission to save Rocket’s life, a mission deciding the fate of the Guardians.
The movie has brought back fan favourites and the original cast from the first two films including Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana and Karen Gillan. Though PSA, the movie is said to be quite gory and disturbing so unless you don’t have a faint heart and are a Marvel junkie, watch the trailer.
So that’s it folks! 3 New movies and one you: Fast X, Guardians Of The Galaxy and The Little Mermaid. We have our weekend plans sorted, how about you?
