BLACK TAP Restaurant Review

Black Tap is not JUST about Craft Burgers!

Black Tap serves an array of classic New York style burgers in Singapore, Instagram-worthy Crazy Shake TM milkshakes and craft beers. These Award-winning Craft Burgers first foray in Asia is inspired by the great American luncheonette experience. Black Tap is located at L1-80, Bay Level, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands at the far end of the mall, tucked away in a corner, yet it can accommodate around 140 people including seating at the atrium, bar, and tabletop seating.

We tried the brand’s famous Crazy Shakes, which have received worldwide acclaim with their whimsical and over-the-top flavours and toppings. Eight different Crazy Shakes are available daily, out of which we ordered the original “Cotton Candy” Strawberry shake and the popular “Sweet and Salty” Peanut Butter shake.

The food here is not halal although there are plenty of vegetarian options. So out of the savories, we ordered a salad and a starter.

“COTTON CANDY”

For $22, you get an insta-worthy milkshake for sure but is it worth it? We don’t think so!

The few inches high whipped cream topping decorated heavily with a pink lollipop, rock candy, whipped cream & cotton candy doesn’t hold up for more than a few minutes for which we blame the humidity in Singapore. But the milkshake inside just didn’t do it for us! As pretty as this milkshake is, presented in a vanilla-frosted rimmed glass with blue, pink & pearl chocolates, it was messy, way too sweet and certainly didn’t have much strawberry flavor in it.

“SWEET AND SALTY”

Topped with a sugar daddy, pretzel rods, chocolate covered pretzel, whipped cream & chocolate drizzle – Sweet and Salty is a must -try.

CrazyShakes, Sweet and Salty Shake, Black Tap SingaporeWhile we weren’t sold on the bestseller, this Peanut butter milkshake cheered us up and we couldn’t have enough. This shake too gets a bit messy as the cream starts to melt and forms a bit of a puddle if you don’t eat it quick enough, however, this decadent drink in a chocolate-frosted rimmed glass with chocolate gems is too delicious.

“HOUSE-MADE FALAFEL BURGER SALAD”

Falafel patty, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, hummus, Greek feta, pickle onions, Tahini dressing – is what the menu said.

What we received was a big bowl of lettuce with a rock-solid, massive Falafel in the middle. Traces of hummus, Greek feta, pickle onions with barely any cucumber, tomatoes and a few very salty olives. The salad was dry, the dressing had no kick to it, … we were disappointed. However, the customer service at this place is amazing, and after we complained about this lack-lustre serving, we were not charged for the salad.

“GUAC & CHIPS”

This is one of those “once you start you can’t stop eating” items on the menu – a mix of Salsa Verde, Pico de Gallo, cilantro. The guacamole was fresh and delicious. The Chips were crunchy and the combo had a tangy, spicy kick to it.

“FROM WHAT WE OBSERVED BUT DIDN’T TRY”

We had a look around and what we spotted the American style, juicy, stacked burgers looking absolutely scrumptious! They were being enjoyed thoroughly at lots of tables.

“VERDICT”

Black Tap Burgers in Singapore is a fantastic place to have a light bite or a full-on meal. If you’re on a shopping spree, take a break and refuel yourself. Given the location, it is ideal for people working in the city to pop in for lunch or after a late night too.

You certainly cannot question the popularity of this place. The queues were really long on a weeknight and the entire place was packed.

We would suggest you bring the kids here at least once for the novelty of the CrazyShakes and for burgers too. Just remember not to do so too late at night as they are sugary.

If you don’t eat non-halal meat or are a vegetarian, there are plenty of options. If you’re not too keen on burgers in Singapore, there’s always the craft shakes, or savouries.

They don’t take reservations so if you don’t have the patience to stand in a long queue, either come back after a bit of sustenance or don’t come here famished!

Black Tap is open daily from 11:00am to 11:30pm.

If burgers is not really your thing, try this halal Italian eatery and relish the cool drinks and pastas!
