Jannat Se Aagay – Well, it turns out that Tabassum is not as innocent as she seemed in the beginning? Can we hold her ambition against her? Or do we need to differentiate between being materialistic and ambitious?
Why Is Jannat Holding On To Her Marriage?
Till now the only positive that we see in Jannat is her attitude with Tabassum. The script of Jannat Se Aagay is not showing us anything so far in the past or present, to make us think that perhaps, everything’s not entirely Jannat’s fault. In fact, some of her dialogues reveal that maybe the reason she is holding on is “log kiya kahengey” and not because she really wants to stay in this relationship.
Interesting how Jannat places responsibility of everything or anything on anyone but herself. When Farooq refuses her help, she tells him that people always want something from her. There is sadness and shikwa without realizing that she chose to let people do that and not value those who would have wanted her for who she really is.
Tabassum’s Changeover
Interesting how money, and a few days with Jannat have given a new confidence and self-awareness to Tabassum. She is not only rebelling against her parents but has also changed her behavior towards Farooq. One would think that sending her brother to Dubai and getting her sister married before all else, was just a reflection of her ambitious side, but then her complete disregard for Farooq and his true feelings makes us realize that maybe, it is money that is the motivation behind all her actions now.
Farooq Surprises Us
We see an aggressive and very emotional Farooq as he gets into a fight with a group of guys saying mean things about him and Tabassum. It was a surprise and also made us realize that, if need be, he is capable of showing another, more firm side of himself to us. It is actually by choice that he is gentle and caring towards Tabassum.
What is Tabassum really Upto?
She wants to take control of everything in Jannat’s house, that is quite clear. But will she be dishonest in money handling? Tabassum taking a sip from the children’s cold drink and eating a few French fries was a true to life portrayal. Especially when one is given luxuries all of a sudden that they might not have ever dreamt of.
Strong Independent Women?
Is Jannat’s definition of a strong and independent woman a correct one – A woman who has no regard for her husband’s respect or who doesn’t realize her responsibility towards her home and children, do we want these traits to be associated with strong and independent women? Does strength need to be screamed out loud to prove its existence? Moreover, the fact that despite knowing everything, Jannat is not able to leave her husband like she threatened him to, shows she is actually a “woman controlled by halaat and log kiya kahengey” and not the strong, independent woman that she claims to be.
