Breaking the chains of patriarchy! The upcoming drama Jindo is a poignant message on women empowerment!

About Jindo
Jindo is produced by A2W Productions in partnership with Multiverse Entertainment. It is directed by Anjum Shahzad and written by Qurban Ali Rao. Moreover, the drama is filmed in the rustic dunes and deserts of Pakistan and depicts the powerful story of women who rebel against tribal patriarchy and fight against severe injustice.
The costumes are heavily worked and orchestrated to depict the characters and set the mood for a story that is removed from any we’ve watched earlier.
Cast Of Jindo
The trailer provides a glimpse into the cast of Jindo, featuring Humaima Malick as the protagonist (Jindo), who makes a highly anticipated return to television after her powerful performance in the movie, The Legend of Maula Jatt. Alongside her, Gohar Rasheed (Hasrat) & Hajra Yamin (Falak) are paired up, portraying a complex relationship between a misogynistic man and a strong-willed woman. Notably, Nazr Ul Hassan delivers a captivating performance as the antagonist (Daad Saeen), ruling over women of all ages with little regard for their humanity. The drama also features Samiya Mumtaz in the role of a mediator for strong women (Bindi), lending them a voice. Additionally, Faraz Ali portrays (Faqeera) a naive and vulnerable man who takes on all the wrongdoers, while Naeema Butt’s character (Shano) represents a young woman who has been victimized and traumatized.
Trailer Review
The story is supposedly scripted after a true life narrative. The trailer opens with a powerful dialogue that immediately captures the audience’s attention. It conveys the message that labeling the victims as weak is a grave mistake because the true tyrants are those who remain silent in the face of injustice.
This sets the theme of injustice, and the denial of women’s rights is expertly portrayed throughout the two-minute trailer of Jindo. Thus, the bravery of the women who stood up against the wrongdoings and revolted against tribal patriarchy is highlighted in a poignant and impactful manner. Moreover, the trailer effectively showcases the harsh realities of the women living in the area, who faced horrific injustice and how they fought back against it.
As vigilant observers of the toxic upbringings and societal rituals that perpetuate injustice against women, we can’t help but wonder how the drama intends to initiate change of traditional, and maybe orthodox practices or whether, the story is a mere work of fiction…
Will the story garner support for the injustices it portrays in a screenplay that is marked with unapologetic blood & violence, reflecting the brutal practices of the times, or will it put off the faint at heart, discourage fair viewing, due to the gory nature of violence that the trailer seems to hint at.
The oppression of women has been portrayed often onscreen, but never with so much blood & violence. Is that a good or bad thing? Only time and audiences will tell once the drama goes on air!
We hope Jindo will address issues with sensitivity and nuance as we look forward to seeing how the drama unfolds. Overall, the narrative seems to be a powerful depiction of the strength and courage of women in the face of adversity.
