Kabli Pulao – If You’re Not Watching, We Suggest You Start Now!

Kabli Pulao appeals to our finer instincts; of love, emotional wellbeing, support, care for another, placing the one we love before ourselves but above all, Kabli Pulao is about respect in relationships. A heart wrenching yet poetic episode, showing the multilayered relationship characters share with each other.
Is Haji Mushtaq asking Barbeena to stay back because he is ready to accept the nikah or does he just want to protect her?
A Deep Watch!
Kabli Pulao amazes yet again with a script that runs deep and direction to match. How beautifully and respectfully the brother asks Barbeena if she shares husband-wife relations with Haji Mushtaq. Barbeena’s answer to her brother revealed multiple emotions and meanings, showing that it was comfort, support, respect, companionship, protection, dedication and trust that she saw in him, and received from him. How beautiful is the portrayal of the concept that it is not just physical love but much more that can draw a man and a woman towards each other.
Respect Above All Else
Barbeena stops him from leaving the house in anger because of her, making him realize how it will appear to those around him and that he must not compromise on his respect. Respect for her character grows, as we realize she could have used this opportunity to just think about herself, but she chooses to risk going back with her family rather than compromising on his izzat.
Emotional Blackmailing Or Misreading Silence?
While one can feel Shameem’s pain and the loss of so many years, it seems unfair of her to emotionally hold Haji Mushtaq responsible for her decision to not marry. Till now the drama has not shown anything that would indicate Haji Mushtaq giving her false hope – an important point, that we can’t hold someone responsible for our feelings. Silence is not always a yes.
It is interesting how all characters carry shades of grey. Despite her bitterness, Shameem subsequently feels the pain of revealing Mushtaq’s secret in public. Haji Mushtaq’s brother (instead of reacting aggressively to this news), reveals the gravity of the situation and how he feels about his brother through his facial expressions.
ASI Ilyas was ruthless in sending the 2nd batch of Khwaja Siras. Their chants reflected the thoughts of this society and our views when such relationships are revealed, making the couple feel they have committed a crime; just like Haji Mushtaq and Barbeena at that time. Maybe it is this reaction that made Haji Mushtaq keep his nikah a secret.
Will Haji Own Up To The Nikah?
It was a surprise when Haji asks Barbeena’s brother to go without her. It made us wonder if he is now willing to own up to the nikah? Or is it that since his secret is out now, and his limits have been pushed, he has chosen to face everyone and protect Barbeena by keeping her with him. Now no one can dare ask her to be sent away or be married off.
