Korea has Kakaotalk, Vietnam has Zalo, China has Wechat, India has Hike and now Pakistan has Beep! Looks like our state is getting quite tech savvy, how?
Pakistan government has recently launched a new social media app called “Beep” exclusively designed for government employees. The primarily chatting based application also offers audio, video calling and video conferencing features.
Currently Accessible For Government Employees
The COO of the National IT Board divulged that initially, the ‘Beep’ app will be accessible only to government employees through a secure link.
The Ministry of Information & Technology and the National IT Board’s plan is to conduct a month-long trial of the app before actually implementing its use in the federal ministries and departments.
Developed For A Unifying Purpose
“Beep” has been developed to serve as a unified platform for the state in regards to all social media activities including email, WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter consolidated to ensure a secure environment to safeguard against cyber threats (and the many infamous audio leaks, ehem ehem)
A 100% Secure App (Is There Such A Thing?)
The data on Beep’s system maintains all data exclusively on Pakistan’s servers under the due supervision of the National IT Board, eliminating the risk of audio or video leaks enhancing and ensuring 100% security. (A full 100? Thats major!) The National IT Board’s COO says: “The biggest advantage of this app is that it is 100% safe and secure, as its server and source code will be in Pakistan”
Piquing your interest? Curious to try it out? Have a little patience. It is reported, the 3rd phase of the launch will make the domestic application available nationwide on Google’s Play Store.
Better Late Than Never?
The minister rightly pointed out the launch of similar apps as an alternative to the mega communication app – WhatsApp in neighbouring countries; Indian and Bangladesh. “We have been a bit late in this regard, however, it is better to be late than never,” he said.
Better late than never? Now, the important question is – Is the App anywhere as good as the oldie but goldie WhatsApp?
