Mehwish Hayat has been long reigning our screens and cinemas but will we be seeing her back on our TV screens anytime soon? Let’s take a look back at her 3 iconic TV roles!

Mehwish Hayat has long been reigning our screens and multiplexes and it seems she is still on a roll. Her latest release Teri Meri Kahaniyaan has been receiving high praise and seems to be a hit already. Her role in Hollywood’s Marvel movie has been a testament to her talent, skills and star power! The diva has also received a state honor in 2019, a Tamgha e Imtiaz.
Her name is synonymous to yearly Eid hits/releases but does she plan on making a comeback on TV? The star has also announced the launch of her film production company, Pink Llama Films. An exciting revelation – In a recent interview for the BBC Asian Network she revealed whether she will make a comeback on TV soon, “Absolutely. I’ll be doing a drama by the end of this year. I’ve been reading scripts because dramas reach out to every household. It’s usually the character that people fall in love with, and then eventually the actor. That’s beautiful.”
So as we anticipate another Mehwish Hayat character, read on to recall 3 of her most famous roles that graced our TV screens:
1. Anmol In Dil Lagi
The serial was aired on ARY Digital in 2016, produced by Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib under Six Sigma Plus. It was written by Faiza Iftikhar and directed by Nadeem Baig.
Set in the shanty areas of interior Sindh, a girl Anmol lives with her mother and younger sister after their father has passed away. Anmol’s father had a debt which he had paid off but Anmol’s mother has no proof of the debt repayment and falls prey to the area’s feudal who claims their father owed him money and asks his son, Mohid to make the recovery. Mohid, a real estate specialist tries to evict Anmol’s family but eventually falls in love with Anmol. The main crux of the story is the rift between Anmol and Mohid.
Mehwish’s character garnered huge praise and has been her most prominent role in her tv career. Her character, named Anmol was a strong and resilient young woman who stepped up as the man in the house, ever since her father died. She’s fiesty without any qualms and works in a library, being an integral character in the plot’s fame.
2. Maham In Meray Qatil Meray Dildar
In this drama too, Mewish’s character, Maham is shown to be strong and she exacts revenge. She is shown to be loving but when wronged, she makes sure there’s payback and the kind of payback that is supremely calculative and smart on her part.
Maham is a career oriented woman who falls in love with Umer (Ahsan Khan) and ends up marrying him. But luck doesn’t seem to be on their side. It further dawns upon her that her stalker is Umer’s brother, Bakhtiar (Adnan Siddiqui). The conspiracies of Bakhtiar and the rest of the clan result in Umer divorcing Maham instead of questioning Bakhtiar’s character. In a series of events next, Maham plots her revenge on Umer, his family and Bakhtiar whom she marries.
The serial was aired on HUM TV in 2011, written and directed by Aliya Bukhari and Asim Ali.
3. Eashal In Kabhi Kabhi
The serial was aired on ARY, written and directed by Samira Fazal and Anjum Shahzad.
Eashal has received her education in the UK, is the youngest and is her father’s entire world. Her father though, forces her to marry a slightly older but well established man, but she isn’t ready for that sort of a commitment. She meets Aarez, who is confident about himself, is calm and decent, willing to work hard to do well for himself and his family who are quite close-knit. Eashal ends up marrying Aarez much to her father’s displeasure but their marriage is tumultuous. Eashal’s character is boisterous and of a strong headed extrovert girl who gets things done her way.
It’s clear as day that Mehwish has been mostly successful in choosing strong headed female characters much before many others embarked on this route. We hope continues to do the same for her future projects.
