Summer in Pakistan signals the arrival of heatwaves, sky-high temperatures and prolonged bouts of load shedding. The sweltering heat is made bearable only by the appearance of the king of fruits – the royal mango!

Mangoes are a delicacy even the fitness freaks cannot resist, as they gorge on mangos in all shapes and sizes, ranging from the massive Sindhri to the smaller Anwar Ratol. While many would argue that there is only one “right way” to devour it, today, we look at 3 unconventional but equally delicious ways to eat a mango:

1. Shake it Up!

This simple concoction serves as the perfect blend for those who want to enjoy it on the go! A simple 2 step recipe will have your smoothie ready in 5 minutes and have you on your way.

Ingredients:

  • Two mangoes, diced into cubes
  • One frozen mango
  • One frozen banana

Method:

Blend them all in, and serve them as shown below. If you wish to take the more traditional approach, you may dice 2 mangoes, add your choice of milk and sugar (optional, since the mango’s sugar more than compensates for the sweet element) and serve it chilled.

Make it Pop!

This variation is for those looking to enjoy the mango, but also avoid any acne outbreaks! These fruity ice pops serve as a perfect treat for the kids, after an evening playing outdoors.

Ingredients:

  • Mango diced in chunks
  • Lime Juice, freshly squeezed
  • Honey
  • Water/Coconut Water

Method:

Place the water, fresh lime juice, mango chunks and honey into a blender and blend until smooth. Next, pour mixture into popsicle moulds. Freeze for at least four hours and enjoy!

Unconventional Mango Salsa!

There’s nothing quite like a tangy mango salsa to serve at your next dinner party. Create an unconventional salsa with the following:

Ingredients:

  • 1 mango
  • Red onions
  • Jalapenos
  • Cilantros
  • Lime juice.

Method:

Dice the mango and in the jalapenos and red onions. Toss well. Use cilantro and lime juice to garnish. This is best served with a side of nachos!

It also makes for a great snack to indulge in, as you curl up for a cozy Netflix evening, guaranteeing a wholesome movie theatre experience.
