Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay is the new HUM TV drama which will stare Mahira Khan, Kubra Khan and Usman Mukhtar as the leads. It is the adaptation of Umera Ahmed’s collection of three stories Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay, Band Kiwaron Ke Aagey and Halal-e-Jurrat. Directed by Farooq Rind who has also directed Ishq Zahe Naseeb and Pyar Ke Sadqay, the story is believed to unfold a deeply tragic tale of trust, love & repentance.

The tale revolves around three characters; Mehreen, Mishal and Aswad. Mishal and Mehreen are cousins but carrying completely opposite dispositions. Mishal is a confident and attractive girl while Mehreen seems to carry a lot of emotional baggage with her and is shown as relatively shy and introverted. On the other hand Aswad, played by Usman Mukhtar, emits intensely mysterious vibes and a possible negative streak. We will probably witness him caught between the feud of the cousin sisters.

Three teasers dropped today with a lead character narrating them. Here is our take on them:

Teaser 1- Featuring Mahira Khan as Mehreen Mansoor

Okay so firstly Mahira Khan will be returning to television after 6 years and we are over the moon in excited anticipation! The first teaser is narrated by Mahira Khan where she introduces us to her character, Mehreen Mansoor. In a short clip of a mere 30 seconds, Mahira is able to captivate the audience and develop an attachment towards her character. The physical appearance of Mahira reveals a seemingly simple girl but all is not as it seems – there seem to be many layers to her character (which remains to be unveiled). On one hand she appears confused and scared while on the other, she seems to be totally self-assured.

Kudos to Mahira who has convinced us in under a minute that she can carry any role that comes her way. Her screen presence held promise and impact in a single frame – very Mahira, nothing more, nothing less, as expected. Mehreen is shown as a simple bespectacled girl who wears her hair tied loosely or braided. Her expressive body language contrasts starkly with the understated physical traits and adds to the aura of Mehreen’s character.

Furthermore, the child in the trailer, Tehreem Ali, also appearing in Neeli Zinda Hai currently (who is supposedly the younger version of Mehreen), feels impactful & adds a further mysterious element to the story. Mehreen seems to be blaming her parents for her problems. Mostly, she appears baffled. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to watching Mahira’s character reveal onscreen very soon!

Catch up with the first trailer here:

Teaser 2- Featuring Usman Mukhtar As Aswad Ayub

Fans couldn’t wait to see Usman Mukhtar after Dr. Haris in Sabaat and we surely aren’t disappointed. He is giving off strong hero vibes – charisma in every frame. While his physical appearance seems to be very similar to the ones in his previous two dramas – Sabaat and Ana – however, this time his character seems to emit both a mysterious and (perhaps) negative streak – how will he pull it off? Aswad is the one to watch!

We can clearly catch Aswad’s antagonism towards Mehreen. Mahira and Usman coming together in one frame have much to offer audiences which is why fans can’t wait for the first episode to hit screens in the coming months! More on Usman’s character – it seems inevitable from the trailer that he will be caught in the feud between Mehreen and Mishal. But will he be hoodwinked, or mistaken, will he judge wrongly or will he be the central reason for the feud in the first place? Our guess is as good as yours!

Writer Umera Ahmed has stated on her social media that although the story line remains original to the novel, there maybe some changes in the process of adaptation to screen.

Watch the first look of Usman as Aswad in teaser 2:

Teaser 3- Featuring Kubra Khan As Mishal

She came and she conquered – Kubra’s first look in the teaser of Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay emitted power, control and energy. She is shown to be both confident and provocative (which is the complete opposite of her role in Alif, the last time we saw her on screen). Through the teaser we see Mishal as self assured & assertive, she is used to having things her way. In one shot we catch her scorching a shirt with a cigarette while in another she seems lost in a world of tearful misery. Kubra Khan takes on Mishal’s journey with a restless passion – the teaser has intrigued us as it was meant to – on point and adequately mysterious!

Watch the teaser 3 here:

Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay – all 3 teasers arise curiosity and promise an original narrative set apart from the present day dramas currently on air. We hope that the story will not submit to the cliched sister-rivalry sequence that has been played out too often on screen, and even if that is the case, it is supported by a convincing narrative. Of course, expectations are high with a classic Umera Ahmed script & sharp direction from Farooq Rind Moreover, the teasers reveal crisp, well-edited scenes, bright color palettes, slick cinematography and above par direction.

The ensemble cast was notable in their absence and we hope to catch them soon in future teaser drops – Zainab Qayoom, Haroon Shahid, Shamim Hilali, Zainab Qayyum, Huma Nawab, Laila Wasti, Omair Rana and several others will appear in the project.
