Just like me, are you a remote learner too? If yes, then this article is about remote learning is for you!
We all know that due to COVID-19, almost all the institutes across the globe are struggling with remote learning and teaching. It is not our most favourable choice for many obvious reasons as a student, but alas, something is better than nothing, right! Every student must understand that remote learning might not be the best choice, but understanding its pros and cons can help you improve your situation.
Pros of Remote Learning
1) No Need To Get Ready
One of the best things about remote learning is that you don’t need to get ready for the day. I mean it’s the best feeling! As you know, during your normal routine you get up early and need to be perfectly dressed, tiring I know! However, during remote learning, with your cameras off, you can be in your pyjamas and still attend lectures all day long.
2) Recorded Lectures
Remote students face a lot of disturbances and distractions which affect their attention spans. Therefore, the feature of lectures being recorded gives the students space for reviewing them whenever they feel like it. Also, it helps in studying more effectively for exams and homework.
Finding a job or an internship virtually is easy, and it helps you build yourself professionally. Remote learning students have a lot of time and flexibility since they’re attending virtual sessions and lectures. Therefore, they can utilize time and work from home. Doing so can make them responsible and efficient individuals.
Cons of Remote Learning
1) Feeling Lethargic and Sleepy
Students are often found lethargic and sleepy while studying from home. Due to so many facilities that remote learning provides, students waste their time all day and study at night. This disturbs their sleeping and working pattern.
Tip: Sleep for at least 8 hours, ideally from 10 pm-6 am. For more information about improving your sleep pattern, click here!
2) Getting Distracted
Remote learning at home comes with a lot of distraction. Some distractions are out of your control but some are your own faults, such as scrolling mindlessly through Instagram and Facebook. Students are distracted and are unable to concentrate on their virtual lectures.
Tip: Open Whatsapp web for important messages on your laptops and put your phone away. For more information about avoiding distraction, click here!
3) No Routine
Remote learning has disturbed the routine of students. They tend to waste time rather than being productive. Even though virtual sessions and lectures take place at a specific time, it’s wasted on procrastinating. This makes them irresponsible and lazy and puts them behind in school, which end up affecting their overall grade.
Tip: Make a planner for yourself and set reminders about everything you want to achieve that particular day. For more information about creating a routine, click here!
4) Lack of Interaction
Students learn more effectively through interacting with their peers. Interaction with others helps them develop analytical thinking skills and makes them more tolerant of opposing views. Due to limited interaction in virtual classes, students often lack a close bond with their peers and it leads to feeling isolated.
Tip: Schedule video calls with your friends and classmates at least thrice a week. For more information about effectively interacting in online classes, click here!
5). Connectivity Issues
This is the biggest problem of students while remote learning. Some areas even lack adequate Wifi signals which makes it impossible for students to attend their sessions. Students might view recorded lectures but attendance and interaction with teachers remain at an all-time low, which hinders their performance.
Tip: Buy a mobile 4g or 3g device which you can charge before your session and load data bundles on it. For more information about 4g devices, click here!
