Have you watched the trailer for ‘Aik Hai Nigar’ yet?
Aik Hai Nigar is the upcoming ARY telefilm starring Mahira Khan and Bilal Ashraf as the lead couple. Moreover, this telefilm is an ISPR project written by Umera Ahmed (Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay), produced by Nina Kashif of Humsafar, Baaghi & HKKST and directed by Adnan Sarwar of Motorcycle Girl. The official trailer dropped over the weekend, causing quite the hype among fans, and the telefilm will be aired on Saturday 23rd October.
What Is The Story Of ‘Aik Hai Nigar’?
The storyline of the telefilm revolves around women empowerment, their journey to follow their dreams & become independent. More closely, it is the biopic of Lieutenant General Nigar Johar, the first 3 star female general of The Pakistan Army, whose life story and achievements serve as inspiration for many young women in our society
What Is The Audience Rooting For After Watching The Trailer?
1) Commitment At Work

The world is talking about equal rights for men & women, but when it comes to clubbing the commitment of a doctor with the armed forces – the sense of duty is multiplied several times over. 1. Uniform. 2. Doctor. Both are noble professions that demand the ultimate sense of loyalty and service to your nation. Mahira Khan as Nigar Johar seemed to echo that commitment in her tone and expressions – so if we go by the trailer, we are in for an intense Saturday night!
2) Father & Daughter Relationships Can Be Tough When You Stray From The Norm

General Nigar Johar has mentioned that it was hard for her to convince her father that she wanted to join the army – the level of commitment is so real, and far reaching that it tends to take over a man’s life, let alone a woman’s. For Nigar, a young girl, to make that decision, might sound great for the books (or movies) but in reality, it is hard for a loving father to accept that his daughter (whom he sees as a happily wedded bride one day) will take on a struggle that might compromise her life role as the ‘traditional’ Pakistani woman.
We are in for 2 intensely dynamic male character depictions in the telefilm. For a narrative that is hugely female-driven, both Sohail Sameer as Nigar’s father and Bilal Ashraf as husband are delivering formidable screen presence.
It is interesting to see how the trailer portrays the shift from father to husband, which is exactly how the real Nigar had it in her life. Nigar seems to have a father who did not compromise on values and commitment and subsequently found a supportive husband in Johar Khan who helped her succeed in her role at home, and in her career.
3) To Prove Yourself Within The System

Sometimes girl power might mean girl (dis)empowerment. It’s all about the challenges and obstacles life throws you, sometimes, from places & people you least expected. If you don’t overcome them, you don’t learn how to forge ahead. An ambitious woman is often challenged in similar ways. But don’t hold that against your destiny, as General Nigar Johar uttered wisely and poignantly, aptly echoed by Mahira Khan:
“Koi Tragedy Aisi Nahi Jo Kisi Aur Ke saath Na Huwee Ho, Aur Koi Kaamyabi Aisi Nahi Jo Kisi Aur Ko Na Mili Ho”
The humility in this realization is what makes heroes … and gives hope – if heroes before us have done it, so can we!
4) Having A Supportive Husband & Not Letting Go Of Love

When Bilal Ashraf & Mahira Khan share the screen together, we all know something magical is on the way. In Aik Hai Nigar, not only do we see the life journey of a determined woman, but we also see a role model of a husband who supports her at every turn. However, it is one thing to support your wife in her career but another to have that career in the Army.
Taking on the role of a husband whose wife serves the army does not exactly a traditional relationship make.
Aik Hai Nigar promises to be a unique love story. One that shows us how a woman carries on a successful career in a non traditional profession and keeps her marriage going, not just as a namesake, but for real. Women who take on careers as doctors or army personnel in our society are often expected to give up on their roles as wives, and unfortunately, they often do. But the cherry on top with Aik Hai Nigar is, that this is a true story, not one that is fantasized, fictionalized or overtly romanticized to meet audience expectations. Yet, it has all that we need to show us that women can lead complete lives, as professionals and family makers, not because they are lone rangers or super women, but because they have a supportive partner.
5) Strong Females In Positions Of Power Are Not Seen Often Enough On Screen!

Power, dignity, commitment and determination – General Nigar encompasses all that. If we’re running out of adjectives, it’s because the trailer & Mahira Khan’s tone & expressions delivered all that and more. This is one instance where the real life narrative is as compelling as the onscreen version. Aik Hai Nigar promises to be that and more… can she do it?

Our Expectations From Aik Hai Nigar
The trailer has raised curiosity and promises an authentic tale set in the correlation of present-day situations. According to the trailer, we are hoping to see the story of a brave woman instead of a cliche. Therefore, we have high expectations with a script from Umera Ahmed, direction from Adnan Sarwar & a Nina Kashif production.
It is wonderful and uplifting to know that we are finally telling our own stories
We have heroes among us, and a youth that needs inspiration, role models and mentors. Not only is General Nigar an inspiration, but so is Mahira Khan.
By taking on projects that go above and beyond the ordinary girl next door role, yet, who are essentially about the girl next door and what she is capable of achieving if she sets her mind to it – yes, Mahira was also one of them, and so was General Nigar – the girl next door – and look where they both are now!
If they can do it, so can you. We hope this is what Aik Hai Nigar promises us on Saturday night!
