Nayi Soch Is Out & It’s Not Coming Slow

Khel Khel Mein isn’t coming slow, even with the song lyrics! The recent song drop swept social media like a breath of fresh air- much needed, to say the least, and audiences are taking it in like essential oxygen in a covid-filled world.
What do you expect when we spot Bilal Abbas Khan & Sajal Aly moving to a catchy beat, could fans have asked for anything more?

We are used to watching Bollywood stars moving to the beat, but when our own superstars step off the TV screen and onto the cinema sets we are (pleasantly) surprised to catch the dance moves … perhaps it has been sometime since Superstar & Parey Hut Love, or perhaps, we just needed to see this super pairing of Bilal & Sajal vibing to a catchy number!
What’s refreshing is to note that the frames have given adequate space to supporting cast as well. The makers are not afraid to experiment and aren’t just selling off the moves on the basis of Bilal & Sajal’s star power. There is so much more happening in the 2 minute musical extravaganza and we’re taking it all in.
What was missing? Not much, though on a lighter note. Fahad Mustafa fans might have expected him to appear unexpectedly in the frame, given he has been present in recent Filmwala ventures!
Although the dance is heavily choreographed, director Nabeel Qureshi and the cast of course have managed to keep the fun element, it’s almost believable and so relatable that we feel we can step onto the set & join in!

Moreover, it’s not just the sight of our favourite stars moving to the beat, it’s also the straightforward lyrics, the vibe from supporting cast onscreen and a general je n’ai sais pas that is making us listen to Nayi Soch on repeat!
Moreover, the vocals are pleasant to the ears, so all in all, the song is serving as a great teaser to the soft feel of the narrative. On a side note, one wonders if the ‘light’ vibe in the song will match the intensity of the story line or is it just a feel-good teaser for more sober content set to hit our screens?
Nevertheless, the movie gives us a catchy number as both leads caution us to ‘Understand History’ even as they swing to the beat.
The Lyrics Will Throw You Off!
Saad Aur Zara Khel Khel Mein Buhat Kuch Keh Gaye! Khwaja Danish has penned lyrics that are not missing a beat, just like the song!
Chal Chal Ke Purani Rahen, Ab Toh Sab Thak gaye Yaar… Dhaka comes up halfway through the song (just like in the teaser) & then the chorus drives home a point and goes on to mention Dil ka Corridor, Kirtharpur, Chai ka cup yaad nahi? …provocative much?

Want more? Visa free dosti ka corridor is another phrase that stuck.
Competition jeetna vs khel jeetna is the agenda & watching Bilal & Sajal ace their dance moves to a song where every lyric throws you off & (means a whole lot more than simple words put together in rhyme) is giving us hope that we will finally be treated to a fun watch on November 19th – But not without its fair share of messages.
Just as we started to wonder on the agenda of the makers, the conciliatory tone adds color to the lyrics:
milke suljhaen aaja woh dour
Sun, sun ke saara jhagra humaara, ab toh dunya bhi hogayee hai bor!

Will this be a narrative that sets the record straight on history, will it be a move to reach out to neighboring Bangladesh, or will it ignite further conflict with India?
The tone is definitely not compromising, yet, we would love to see a story that brings forward the youth of today, how they feel about events that transpired 50 years ago and might still have repercussions on their present.

Nabeel Qureshi & Fizza Ali Meerza have creditable projects under their belt – hence we trust the narrative will also move in the right direction -seeking answers and solutions, and not raising unnecessary controversy!
Khel Khel Mein is definitely not going to be a light watch so don’t be fooled by the light gaana bajaana
A side note, again! We have yet to see independent Pakistani film & drama makers pushing a narrative that might have a ‘defense’ agenda on the cards – this one is pretty clear on where its heading. Is this the beginning of a new wave of change, a more subtly driven message or a one-off spin on a story that is purely the brain child of a private film maker?
We’re about to find out – but rest assured, a lot is being said between the lines. Listen to the lyrics & you’ll be thinking deep, just like us!
