Sajal Aly shared her first look as Maymouna from the film ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ prior to its premiere at Toronto International Film Festival and we are stanning it!
On Thursday, Sajal Aly shared her first look on Instagram from her movie ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ with the announcement that the film will be premiered at Toronto International Film Festival on 10th September! Sajal donned in a pink shalwar kameez with a loosely tied braid wore her signature big broad smile as she peered into the camera.
Members of the film fraternity congratulated Sajal on her big break!
Sajal will be playing the character of Maymouna in the film. Talking to Variety about her role she said: “I love to play characters that have depth and define the narrative of a project and I think I am very fortunate that my character Maymouna in my international English-language debut ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It?’ has also given me the same opportunity.”
All You Need To Know About What’s Love Got To Do With It
‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ is a rom-com based in Lahore and London which will dive deep into the concept of love and marriage and will center around the concept of cross-culture couples. It is written by British-Pakistani writer Jemima Goldsmith who will be making her debut as a screenplay writer with this film and and is also working in the capacity of a co-producer. The film is directed by veteran Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.
The film will star the multi-talented and the nation’s favorite Sajal Aly who has proven her mettle time and again by taking on challenging roles in various Pakistani drama serials including ‘O Rangreza’, ‘Yakeen Ka Safar‘ and ‘Alif‘ and also in movies including ‘Mom’, ‘Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai’ and most recently in ‘Khel Khel Mein’. The talented cast members also includes Oscar-winner actress Emma Thompson who starred in ‘Last Christmas’, Lily James, Shazad Latif, Shabana Azmi, Asim Chaudhry, Mim Shaikh, Jeff Mirza, Iman Boujelouah, Mariam Haque, Rob Brydonand and Sindhu Vee.
The film centers around a girl Zoe played by Lily James who has had her fair share of bad dates much to her mother, Cath’s (Emma Thompson) dismay. Zoe decides to document her childhood friend and neighbor, Kazim’s (Shahzad Latif) journey from London to Lahore as he decides to follow his parents’ footsteps and opt for an arranged marriage with a girl from Pakistan (our guesses is that it is going to be Maymouna (the character played by Sajal Aly)
