Once upon a time 30 Years Ago, history was made at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as Pakistan lifted the Trophy after defeating England in the Worldcup final. It’s the day when the “Legend of Cornered Tigers” was born, the 1992 world cup we have all heard of! Wondering why we are going 30 years back? It’s because this year the T20 WorldCup is painted with the shades of 1992 all over! Want to know how?

Scroll down to find out all about the startling similarities between the 1992 and 2022 world cup we just can’t stop thinking about.

1 – The Opening Game Was Lost At The MCG Against The Same Opponent

Pakistan faced defeat from their arch-rivals, India in the opening game of the World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the 1992 Worldcup as well as in the T20 Worldcup 2022.

2 – Won 3 Consecutive Matches In The Group Stage

After losing to Zimbabwe, Pakistan’s dreams for the world cup seemed almost over until the unexpected twist. They eventually qualified after winning their final three games with of course the help from the Netherlands.

Pakistan experienced severe problems in 1992 as well. They had only won one of their first five games, including a match against England in which they were bowled out for 74 and were doomed to lose. They beat South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand in addition to the critical no-result points to advance ahead of Australia and the West Indies.

3 – Progressed To The Semi-Finals On The Last Day

On November 6th, Pakistan reached the semifinals of the 2022 T20 World Cup. South Africa was defeated by the Netherlands, leaving Pakistan with control over its own destiny. They eventually defeated Bangladesh to progress to the finals on the last day.

Pakistan qualified for the 1992 World Cup semi-finals in a thrilling race after defeating first-place New Zealand. Given that they were playing on the same day over in Melbourne, either Australia or West Indies would surpass them if they lost, it was a match that had to be won.

4 – England Lost From A Low Tiered Team

Despite losing to Zimbabwe, in a group-stage match, England nonetheless advanced to the 1992 World Cup final. It was Zimbabwe’s lone victory in the competition.

Likewise, in the Super 12 round of 2022, Ireland’s lone victory came over England.

5- Beat NewZealand In The Semi-Final

Both times Pakistan played against New Zealand and defeated them to progress to the semi-finals.

6 – Pakistan vs England In The Final At The MCG

Just like 30 years ago, Pakistan will play against England in the finals at the same ground.

Will the stars align for the Pakistani Team to rewrite history on Sunday or will England avenge the loss of 1992? The finale on Sunday will be the one to watch and we cannot wait!
