1. Balaa – 2018
Balaa explores the theme of narcissism and its destructive consequences on relationships. The story revolves around the character of Nigar, played by Ushna Shah; a diabolical woman who was born with a limp. Consumed by jealousy and a desire for validation, she marries her cousin Taimoor, portrayed by Bilal Abbas Khan, who was in love with the Saba portrayed by Azeka Danial, the daughter of his mother’s friend. Nigar’s manipulative and cunning nature is exposed as she wreaks havoc on the lives of those around her and by creating plots which lead to horrible consequences like divorce, deadly deaths and murder.
The drama skillfully delves into the psychological intricacies of its characters, portraying Nigar’s relentless pursuit of control and dominance. Thus, the duo Zanjabeel Asim & Badar Mehmood highlighted the repercussions of Nigar’s actions on her family members and the moral dilemmas they face in dealing with her toxic behavior. On the other hand, Zaid is a spirited lead, a privileged son who might have to struggle to make his marriage work due to his father’s insistence, for the sake of his family wealth & influence, which, his father threatens to take away if he walks out on his relationship.
