Stepping Into The Land Of Art Deco

Our very dreary Tuesday morning kicked off at Mood Coffee Bar which is located in DHA phase 6 Bukhari Commercial, Karachi and soon turned into quite the opposite of dreary. When we stepped into the bar, the feeling likened to a walk into Art Deco land.
It’s clearly not your ordinary lowkey coffee place but one which carried a distinct art deco vibe, with wall murals, a pop of colours and luxe green furniture with gold tones.
Our favourite spot? The one wall with neon light angel wings which makes for a perfect Instagram booth. We can only imagine how cool it would appear at night. Overall, its a fun environment to chill with friends and family or even alone work remotely.
What Lies Behind The Scenes
We even went behind the counter to get a sneak peak at how our drinks were being made and report back to you on the hygiene standards, among other things. The area where the drinks are prepped was pretty clean and orderly. The staff were also wearing gloves while working! Goes without saying how hygiene is a must.
As far as the products are concerned, we spotted quality syrups, coffee blends. The milk being used for the Frappes and Lattes and Shakes was imported. Condiments and additions for the margaritas and coolers were also super fresh.
Let’s give you a breakdown of what we ordered:
The Cheesy Red Frappe

Imagine Red Velvet in a drink form! This was a rich, creamy red velvety drink with ice cream, cream cheese (yes, you read that right) and finished off with a sprinkling of red velvet flavoured powder! It was quite a treat visually but nothing too revolutionary.
If you are worried about how the cheese in a drink tastes, don’t hesitate because it was just a subtle touch of rich and nothing that hinted at an odd experience on your taste buds.
The Classic Cappuccino

You didn’t think we would miss the main character? Of course we tried the classics! The cappuccino hit all the right spots for a classic coffee and the added plus was the coffee art. The appearance won full marks, though we probably have had better ones taste wise.
Oreo Madness

The Oreo shake was divine! If you’re an Oreo lover (who isn’t though?) this one is for you! There was tons of ice cream, swirled chocolate and crushed Oreo. Though, beware if you don’t like extra sweet shakes, this might not be for you. We can promise you authentic Oreos were used in the shake and no dupes. This would be your best bet for a comfort milkshake paired with a spicy meal.
Apple Mint Margarita

Don’t feel like having coffee for some reason, you can get their fun margaritas and if you like unique combinations, the apple mint margarita is for you. We didn’t think that combination would even work but it hit all the right spots! The mint was fresh, there was hints of sourness and tang from the lemon and lots of ice and the sweetness of apple. Isn’t that all you need on a hot summer day?
Mini Belgian Cake – Chocolate Dessert Bliss?

The Belgian cake struck the perfect balance of sweet and bitter. It was delectably creamy, soft and just the right amount of sweet. Though they would have tasted better if they were a bit more chilled. By the looks of it though, one would think it’s a Lava cake. Don’t ever judge a book by its cover, or a Belgian cake by its first look … the taste of the cake ahem, is in the eating. And this one didn’t do too poorly in the chocolate dessert department!
Last but not the least!
The Mexican Grilled Panini

The best part? The bread! It was so soft and fresh unlike most sandwiches that deliver dried out, stale bread. If you’re a fan of the Subway Parmesan bread it was that, but better, and sprinkled with lots of herbs! The chicken was spicy, grilled, flavourful, with a hot mayo sauce and fresh vegetables. A basic item but done right.
Pair this one as a perfect match with the Oreo shake or a chilled Caramel frappe and you have a meal with a dessert drink in one!
Pricing
In terms of pricing, Mood Coffee Bar was moderate as compared to other coffee places. The Red frappe was priced at Rs. 665, Cappuccino Rs. 495, the Apple Mint Margarita Rs. 430, Oreo shake Rs. 465, Belgian cake Rs. 450 and the Mexican Panini at Rs. 550.
