Seems like the bizarre day we all feared in opposition to AI is here, are you confused? Here is the down low on the Snapchat AI going rogue….
The social media personal chatbot has risen to popularity over the past couple months, AI also made its way to Snapchat earlier this year. Your “My AI” is pinned to the top of your chat feeds allowing you to speak to it anytime you want. My AI is Snapchat’s very own chatbot designed to respond to users messages like a “friend”, answering questions be it any; recommending places to go and respond to snap users send.
In a bizarre headline news on Wednesday morning, numerous twitter users reported something unusual, we might even add freaky. Is it a human error or the AI gone rogue? Snapchat users reported that the app’s AI chatbot had a few obvious issues going on since Tuesday night. The my AI chatbot posted an unbeknownst and mysterious story to its profile and ceased to respond to text chats as opposed to its usual behavior causing unease and uncertainty. As per users, the freak story showed a flat beige area with the top quarter of the screen another light flat color, prompting user speculation that it may be a wall and ceiling.
Brings us back to our solid opinions on AI and its future, how are these “things” or to be more specific, human mimicking robots and machines going to get more intelligent and take us over – a thought rampant in the minds of us and all those around while also bordering reality. Should we be severely worried about what we can be and what should we be doing to prevent it from happening? Because as sophisticated as you may think it to be, AI isn’t all that fool proof.
Snapchat users took to Twitter to discuss and convey concern and even fear over this bizarre event. Some worry AI has evolved, gaining more homo sapien like behaviors/actions and now posting to its own story. As of now, Snapchat has not directly commented on the matter and its support account on X has been directing users to send feedbacks in DMs. Here is how Twitter is reacting and what its fearing:
