Super Sohni is the new superhero in town who has wings that help her to fly and she fights child sexual abuse. Could it get any better?

Initiative taken by SAMAAJ, Super Sohni is an animated fictional character that is all set to fight child sexual abuse that is prevalent in society. The show, which is going to be named after the superhero herself, is going to be a 10 episode series with one episode released each week on YouTube and other social media platforms. The series is directed by Ammar Aziz who is a Pakistani documentary filmmaker and poet, and its executive director is Sehyr Mirza, who is a journalist and advocator for women’s rights.
The director Ammar Aziz in his interview with SAMAA said,
The idea to make such content in Pakistan was conceived two years ago.
The idea to produce such a show is to educate children about their basic rights and creat self awareness.
The first season will narrate the cases that take place with female children in our society while the second season will cater to the males as well.
The trailer assuredly looks promising. Take a look:
Shujat Ali Khan delivers upbeat vocals in the OST and it is composed and written by Ammar Aziz himself.
Society for Advancement of Makers, Arts and Justice (SAMAAJ) is a Lahore-based organization that uses creative mediums to spread awareness and advocate for issues around conflict, justice, and gender.
“As harrowing as these numbers may seem, they still don’t even remotely represent the extent of this problem because most of these cases still go unreported. This is because of the element of shame and dishonor which is attached to it. Awareness is the first step towards prevention and eradication. It is therefore imperative to subtly educate our children on this issue and to teach them to maintain boundaries with everyone they know,”

Undoubtedly, child sexual abuse is a recurrent issue in our society that is left unmentioned and unvoiced.
With 10 children sexually abused daily in Pakistan between January and June in the year 2021, it is high time that we acknowledge the gravity of this issue and take drastic measures to resolve it from our end.
We commend SAMAAJ for taking the initiative to educate the audience and remove the stigma associated with the topic.
