5 Ways Gilgit-Baltistan Made Pakistan Proud

Do you know enough facts about Gilgit-Baltistan? The region isn’t just known for its magnificent scenic landmarks but is gradually taking over as a society where women are winning, and creating spaces & opportunities for other young girls to have dreams as well.

Gilgit-Baltistan, a place of incredible beauty and talent in the north of Pakistan, is located between the highest mountains of the world i.e., Karakoram and the Himalayas. It is a multi-lingual and culturally diverse area.

The people of Baltistan who call themselves Balti, were first the followers of Tibetan Religion, then started practicing Buddhism. Eventually, they embraced the practices of Islam. Three States China, Afghanistan, and Occupied Kashmir of India border this region showing its strategic importance. Sounds intriguing right? Let’s grab the moments when Gilgit-Baltistan made us proud!

1) The Ideal Destination For Tourism

After the pandemic, you definitely need a break, and what better place to visit than Gilgit-Baltistan. The Government of GB recently took multiple initiatives to boost tourism in the area. Skardu and Hunza are reviving the tourism culture in Pakistan. Hunza is among one of the few areas of Pakistan where women are encouraged to play an integral role in their businesses. For this reason, it is one of the safest destinations in Pakistan.

2) First Woman Climber (Samina Baig)

Samina Baig is the first female Pakistani mountaineer who climbed all seven mountains at the age of 21. She raised the flag of Pakistan on Mount Everest in 2013. A documentary titled ‘Beyond The Heights’ has been made to celebrate her expedition to Mount Everest. In 2018, UNDP appointed her as a National Goodwill Ambassador. Likewise, the Special Commission Organization (SCO) appointed her as the brand ambassador twice. More power to you girl!

3) Gilgit-Baltistan Cricket And Football Tournaments

Hundreds of women participated in the sports event held last week. Gilgit-Baltistan is rapidly becoming a hub for young women’s talent. Almost, 10 teams participated in the event which permitted over 150 girls to showcase their talent. This was the first sports event that was held after the pandemic and all participants were encouraged. Finally, everyone acknowledged the efforts made by the management on the success of such a positive and educational event.

4) Zahra Khatoon (Specially-abled Artist)

‘Zahra Khatoon’ of Gilgit-Baltistan is a specially-abled girl who paints with her feet. She recently presented her painting to Chief Secretary Captain Muhammad Asif of Gilgit-Baltistan. It is a very proud moment not only for GB but for Pakistan. Moreover, Pakistan has so much talent which needs to be showcased and praised.

5) Women Enterpreneurs And Professionals

Gilgit-Baltistan is encouraging women who are super talented. For this reason, many organizations are seeking aspiring women entrepreneurs and professionals to join their teams. Women of Gilgit-Baltistan are skilled and eager to move ahead if given the opportunity. A woman named ‘Gumit’ runs her carpet weaving center at Korgah.
