With March in full swing, the producers of the Pakistani entertainment industry have geared up to give us great content for this summer. With an influx of Pakistani movies releasing around Eid and spellbinding content including web series and dramas, we have compiled a list of 6 Pakistani shows that should be on your watch list this summer.

Baarwan Khiladi
Baarwan Khiladi is a cricket-oriented web series, written by Shahid Dogar and directed by Adnan Sarwar of films Shah and Motorcycle Girl.
Starring Danyal Zafar as Akbar and the YouTube star, Shahveer Jafry as Jahangir in lead characters, Baarwan Khiladi is a story about the tussle between a street cricketer Akbar and Jahangir who is a spoilt brat. Eventually, the coaches prefer Jahangir because his family is well-connected and Akbar is chosen as the 12th man – the Baarwan Khiladi.

As the rift between the two deepens, the story is likely to unfold with multiple layers that are going to encompass not only the cricket spectrum but might extend to rivalry, friendships, romance, hatred, power play, etc. It also stars Kinza Hashmi opposite Danyal Zafar as the only female lead. Both Danyal and Kinza seem to share great chemistry on screen and one that we await to see.
It will also include a cameo of the heartthrob, Fawad Khan, and cricketer Shoaib Malik. Other cast members include Sarmad Khoosat, Saba Faisal, Hina Ashfaque, Mohsin Gillani, Shafqat Cheema, Mira Sethi, Usman Peerzada, Fawad Jalal, Salman Butt, Meer Yusuf, Ali Tahir, Khaqan Shahnawaz, Zarrar Khan, Sajjad ul Haq, Ali Abbas, Waqar Ali, Hammad Akmal, Umer Hayat Chaudhry.

Ishrat Made In China
From a stellar cast including Mohib Mirza, Sanam Saeed, fashion maestro HSY and others, to vibrant locations, Ishrat made in China is a promising watch for the audience. The movie, which has already been released in cinemas on 3rd March has lured the audience for a promising story line and its groove-worthy songs.

Mohib Mirza will be essaying the role of Ishrat, an ambitious man who wants to make money, which he thinks will change his life. After landing an opportunity of a lifetime to go to China and make money from the fights he wins, Ishrat agrees in the blink of an eye. However, things go south very soon and he finds himself challenged to a duel by a man who has remained unbeatable so far. In addition, we will also be seeing Sanam Saeed opposite Mohib Mirza – adding a romantic element to the drama. HSY, on the other hand, will be playing the antagonist in the film.
Whether it is worth the hype or not can only be decided by giving it a watch in the cinemas! Still can’t decide? Then read more about the film here.
Dum Mastam
Written by Amar Khan and directed by Mohammed Ehtashamuddin, Dum Mastam will star Amar Khan and Imran Ashraf as leads. Other members of the cast include Sohail Ahmed, Saleem Mairaj, Adnan Shah Tipu, Momin Saqib, and others in significant roles.
What seems more than a love story, the film has a lot of elements amalgamated together. With a blend of drama, dance, heartbreak, ambition, and (seemingly) a story of love turning into hatred – Dum Mastam seems to promise a complete package of what an average viewer looks forward to watching in cinemas.

It is a love-hate story of two ordinary people (who rise to become extra-ordinary), Aliya and Bao, played by Amar Khan and Imran Ashraf. Aliya is an ambitious young girl who has built this fantasy world woven with dreams to achieve big. On the other hand, Bao is the aggressive gali ka ashiq. His goal is simple – to get the girl he loves (but does he really?). However, fate takes a turn when he becomes a music sensation with no plans of his own.
An amalgamation of expressed and unexpressed emotions, a retro Bollywood vibe, the film seems to have too many dramatic factors that one can only expect in fiction. Relasing this Eid-ul-Fitr, we certainly have our eyes on this one!

Parde Mein Rehne Do
Another Eid release, Parde Mein Rehne Do has a star cast including Hania Aamir, Ali Rehman Khan, Jawed Sheikh, Munazza Arif, Sadia Faisal, and Noor Ul Hasan. Directed by Wajahat Rauf and written by Mohsin Ali, Parde Mein Rehne Do touches on a sensitive topic of impotence in our society. The issue is handled with additional elements of romance and comedy. From the trailer, we can predict that it will focus on the story of a couple, who though madly in love, are faced with obstacles that might lead them separate ways.

From showing a desi couple dealing with fertility problems to the remarks they have to hear from their families, the film seems to tackle this issue by showing it through a micro lens. The tiniest details of what a couple has to go through privately as well as in society.
A romantic comedy with a social issue and a great cast. Honestly, what else do we need?
Mr. And Mrs. Shameem
Mr. And Mrs. Shameem is another web series on our watch-list that has us very excited. The 20-episode series features popular actors Saba Qamar and Nauman Ijaz, and is set to premiere on ZEE5 Global on March 11, 2022. It is an unconventional storyline that challenges the deep-rooted mindset of our society.

Produced by Kashif Nisar and Misbah Shafique, Mr. & Mrs. Shameem is a distinctive love story of a pure bond graduating from friendship to growing old together and everything in between. It highlights society’s selective discrimination when they believe a situation does not fit into the mold crafted by themselves. Saba Qamar will be playing the role of a strong-headed girl who makes her own rules while Nauman Ijaz is a kindhearted and ‘too’ caring sort of a person. When fate brings these two polar opposites together in the bond of marriage, how will things play out?
It is a story that gives you food for thought and actually captivates you. The trailer already has us hooked and we are hoping that this one doesn’t disappoint!

Badshah Begum
Badshah Begum is a story that goes beyond your conventional approach of narration in Pakistan and pushes the boundaries to new content and scripts. It is written by Saji Gul of ‘O Rangreza’ & ‘Dour’ and directed by Khizer Idrees of ‘Laapata’ & ‘Superstar.’

It is the story about a ‘Pir’ named Shah Alam (Shahzad Nawaz), and his five children from two wives. Shahzeb and his younger brother Murad (Farhan Saeed and Abul Hasan) who live in the fictitious state of Peeraan Pur, while the other three children have moved to the city: Jahan Ara, Roshan Ara, and Shahmir (Zara Noor Abbas, Komal Meer, Hamza Sohail). However, due to certain circumstances, the three children move back to their hometown to find themselves girdled in politics and power play. The antagonist, Qaisar (Yasir Hussain) is the cousin of the five siblings. His defiance for Badshah Begum’s authority would create obstacles for her during her rule.
With grey characters and an intricately woven story line, Badshah Begum promises to bowl the audience over and we look forward to seeing more!

That’s all for today! Pakistani content creators have certainly upped their game (so it seems) with the trailers and the promotions. We hope that the content itself is also strong and keeps the audience hooked and entertained!
